(Caracas) 2 workers for the US oil company Chevron, have
been arrested and look set to be charged with treason after they refused to
sign a parts contract for a joint venture with state-owned oil company PDVSA.
The workers oversaw operations and procurement at Petropiar,
an oil upgrading project co-owned by PDVSA and Chevron. But they balked when
the parts were listed at more than double their market price in a contract
worth several million dollars. In turn they were arrested by Venezuela's national
intelligence service, Sebin.
It appears that contrary to what the ethical latte crowd
keep on telling me about socialism, it doesn't set you free, rather it enslaves
you. However in reply to the state of affairs in Venezuela, they always reply that the correct form of socialism isn't been practised.
