(Kuala Lumpur) The
rise of polarized Islam within Malaysia has made the organisers of Pop concerts
and other such big events increasingly wary of doing business in this nation of
31 million people which is 61% Muslim. Last
month I mentioned how a Beer festival had been cancelled after the Pan-Malaysian
Islamic Party (PAS) complained it was un-islamic and they would actively protest. The above is nothing new for PAS as they have protested numerous
pop concerts along the same lines: GwenStefani, Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Pussycat Dolls, Selena Gomez are but a few
And its not just Beer and Pop, films are banned on a regular
basis, this year alone Wonder Woman (lead character is a jew) Beauty and the beast
and 19 years ago they banned Babe: Pig in the City. full list here. I’ve mentioned how Laundrettes have started banning non-Muslims
.A Government minister is on record of saying that Muslim apostates should be
“hunted down vehemently”.and this is a country which is only 61% Islamic.
The politicization of Islam has increased as Prime Minister
Najib Razak’s ruling party seeks to appease more-fundamentalist elements in which to
secure the large, Islamic rural vote ahead of an election expected in the
coming months and yet Malaysia is projected as a global image of a moderate
Muslim country. Funny enough they said the same thing about Turkey, Syria and
Lebanon
