(Moscow) The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB)
is the successor to the KGB and as such has a lot of clout. So much clout that
it can sanction the building of its own armoured vehicles and so a few years
back it wanted and received a brand new armoured vehicles. This vehicle
remained off the record until President Putin inspected the ZiL Karatel armoured
car, (Aka Falkatus) last February
Developed by the Russian Company ZiL, the vehicle uses a four-wheeled chassis from a Kamaz-4911 truck. The Falkatus can run up to a maximum road speed of 150 km/h with a total weight of 12,000 kg. The vehicle is motorized with a 8 cylinder engine developing 730 hp. The Falkatus provides a ballistic protection against firing of small of 7.62mm caliber. The vehicle can carry a total of 10 military personnel including driver and commander. There is two doors on each side of the hull and one hydraulic ramp at the rear. The driver and commander are seated at the front of the vehicle near the engine compartment. Six seats are placed back to back along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and two are placed facing backwards in a row between the rear axle.
Well last week it made it first public début in Dagestan
and today it’s been revealed that a number of them have surfaced in the Crimea .
