(Dhaka) A family of five and a fire officer were killed with
two young children being rescued when police raided a Islamist terrorist hideout
in Bangladesh early Thursday. The family decided it was far better to blow themselves up than be arrested by the police after
they emerged from the suspected hideout in south west Bangladesh. One of the
five stabbed the fire officer, who later died of his injuries, while two others
hurled grenades at police. The five killed in the blasts were the 50-year old
house owner, his 40-year-old wife, 28-year-old daughter and two sons aged 30
and 25.
Police raided the house in the village of Habashpur in the district
of Rajshahi after receiving a tip-off that members of the outlawed Jamayetul
Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Islamist group were holed up there.
