Saudi police clash with foreign workers after visa raids, 2 killed, 68 wounded

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabian police clashed with foreign workers in a poor district of Riyadh on Saturday, nearly a week into a visa crackdown in which thousands have been detained and one man killed by police.

Security forces in riot gear fired into the air and used truncheons to disperse large crowds as scores of men ran through the streets, some throwing stones and other objects at cars and police, according to Reuters witnesses.

Two people were killed of which one was a Saudi while the other one was unidentified, the Saudi police said in a statement late on Saturday after it detained 561 people involved in the disturbances in the Manfuhah neighbourhood of southern Riyadh.

The police added that 68 people were injured.

Most of the foreign workers involved in the clashes appeared to be Africans.

Russia jails 4 Chechen Muslims over Moscow airport bombing

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian court jailed three men for life and one for 10 years on Monday over their role in a suicide bombing which killed 37 people at Moscow's Domodedovo airport nearly three years ago.

Chechen warlord Doku Umarov says he ordered the attack on January 24, 2011, as part of an Islamist insurgency against Russian rule of the North Caucasus and has urged supporters to attack the 2014 Winter Olympics in the Black Sea city of Sochi.

Brothers Islam and Ilez Yandiyev, Akhmed Yevloyev and Bashir Khamkhoyev were jailed for offences including commissioning an act of terror, murder and attempted murder.

Only Yevloyev did not receive a life sentence from the Moscow regional court, Russian news agencies said. Prosecutors had asked for a shorter term for him because he was a minor at the time of the attack.

State prosecutors said the four had helped the suicide bomber travel from their native region of Ingushetia in the North Caucasus to Moscow and providing him with an apartment, an explosives belt and transport.

Vladimir Putin sent troops to Chechnya to halt a separatist rebellion in 1999, when he was prime minister, but Russia still faces almost daily violence in the North Caucasus in his third term as president.

Umarov, the leader of Russia's Islamist insurgency, has urged his fighters to use "maximum force" to sabotage the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February.

Syria: No one cares about Palestinians

'Nobody is helping us – neither Europe, nor the UN'

Abu-Badr, head of Beirut’s Bourj al-Barajneh refugee camp People's Committee, gathered representatives of all Palestinian parties. They all keep regular contacts with camps in Syria.

A year after Palestinian camps and Palestinians were attacked, the heads of these organizations are saying that the Syrian war is a staged conflict, and its goal is to distract everybody from the Palestinian problem.

A total of 760,000 Palestinian refugees lived in Syria before the war, and about 550,000 in Lebanon. Palestinians had equal rights in Syria, and virtually no rights in Lebanon. For example, they were not allowed to work in 72 professional capacities.

Abu-Badr says, “There are over 1,000 Palestinian families from Syria in our camp. Nobody is helping us – not Europe, not the UN. The Red Cross came twice. The refugees are renting housing on their own.”

To rent a place to live is a big problem for a Palestinian, especially at the camp. And to pay rent, they have to find a job, which is extremely difficult in Lebanon.

He says that according to the authorities, there are about 120,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria living south of Tripoli. So every tenth refugee is a Palestinian.

Turkey and Jordan don’t accept Palestinians.

Islamic convert arrested after trying to murder non-Muslims on the streets of London

(England) Police were called to an incident in Battersea, South London, around midday yesterday when it was reported that a knifeman, armed with four blades, was trying to smash his way into a fire station.

It transpires firemen confronted the 26-year-old after seeing him throwing bottles at neighbours and threatening passers-by with kitchen knives. But he went berserk and chased the firemen back to the station where he attempted to batter down the doors.

Within minutes more than 20 police officers had arrived at the scene, blocking off the road as the man sprinted up and down smashing police car windows and screaming that he wanted to 'kill Kuffars' (derogatory term for non-Muslims).

Well, after getting zapped by a couple of Tasers, the man was arrested on charges of attempting to murder a policeman.

Funny enough, Battersea is around 5 miles away from where 2 Muslims beheaded a British soldier earlier on this year.

British police arrest journalist for handing out photos of on the run terrorist

(London) With egg still covering their faces from how an Islamic terrorist gave them the slip by dressing up as a woman, the police haven't done their public image any good by arresting a reporter who was handing out photos and a reward for information regarding said terrorist outside the radical mosque where he did a runner. It seems that the nice, peaceful followers of Islam who hang out at the mosque where "Kill the kaffa!" is a regular affirmation, objected to a reporter asking questions and called the Old Bill. They, in turn, faster than you can utter "Allah Ackba" nicked the reporter and his photographer and took them to Acton police station on suspicion of “racially aggravated public disorder” where they were quizzed under caution by detectives for four hours before being released.

Got to love the British police, what with their penchant for murdering innocent people, openly lying and their inability to catch criminals.

Lebanon: Hezbollah Goes Apeshit After Nasrallah Lampooned on National TV

But what else is new?

(INN) Supporters of Hezbollah reacted angrily on Friday after the group’s leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, was lampooned on a national comedy show, Al-Arabiya reports.

The Basmat Watan parody show included an actor playing Nasrallah this week. The program mocked Hezbollah’s involvement in Syria, which has become a very touchy subject within the movement.

The show’s “Nasrallah” lamented his group’s involvement in Syria. When the interviewer agreed, “Nasrallah” clarified that he was upset because, “Our participation came too late. We should have been there from day one.”

The show’s “Nasrallah” also expressed regret over Hezbollah’s extensive weaponry, another controversial topic. The regret: that Hezbollah’s massive arsenal does not include submarines and an air force.

The interviewer then asked about Iran’s control of the Lebanese group, leading “Nasrallah” to quickly conclude the interview.

Nasrallah’s supporters took to the streets following the program, burning tires and blocking roads in various Lebanese cities. The group reacted similarly following a previous “Nasrallah” appearance on Basmat Watan in 2006.

Producer Charbel Khalil responded to the controversy on Twitter and said that the show has mocked religious figures in the past. Nasrallah is a political figure as well as a religious figure, he noted, and as such is a target for parody.

Hezbollah has faced heavy criticism from within and without over its involvement in Syria, where it has sustained heavy losses in fighting alongside Bashar Assad’s army.

The group has also faced recent challenges in southern Lebanon. In September, Christian villagers successfully protested an attempt by Hezbollah to wiretap their town. Later that month the Lebanese government announced that it would send the national army to secure Hezbollah-dominated suburbs – effectively limiting Hezbollah’s power in its traditional strongholds.

Iranian general: No doubt Israel and America will be attacked

Palestinian comedy hour: Fatah, Hamas quibble over Arafat memorial ceremony

Gaza City (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Palestinian movement Fatah has accused Gaza's rulers Hamas of banning it from commemorating Monday's ninth anniversary of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's death and arresting several of its members.

"We condemn the summoning and arrest of some of our members and demand to stop them immediately," said the Ramallah-based Fatah party, which was founded by Arafat and is now headed by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

Arafat died in Paris on November 11, 2004 at 75 after falling sick a month earlier. Doctors were unable to specify the cause of death and no post-mortem was carried out at the time.

Palestinian society has long given currency to the rumour that he was murdered, and following the findings of Swiss scientists which "moderately" supported the notion Arafat was poisoned, Palestinian officials openly accused Israel of "assassinating" him.

Israel flatly denies killing Arafat.

Its statement on Sunday, Fatah also called on Hamas "to end the division and achieve national unity" and appealed for it to reverse its ban on the commemoration of Arafat, "the symbol of Palestine and all liberation movements in the world".

But Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri blamed Fatah for thwarting efforts of his Islamist movement to hold a joint ceremony.

Fatah "insisted it should be only a Fatah ceremony" and decided to not attend a joint meeting that would determine the factional representatives of a memorial ceremony, he wrote on his Facebook page.

Tensions between the two sides have been high since 2006, when Hamas trounced Abbas' long-dominant Fatah in Palestinian legislative elections, and boiled over into vicious street battles between gunmen from both sides later that year.

The ferocity of the violence shocked Palestinians, splitting them into rival camps and the occupied territories into two separate entities, with Hamas unchallenged in Gaza and Abbas's power base limited to the West Bank.

Philippine typhoon deaths climb reaches 10,000

TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) — As many as 10,000 people are believed dead in one Philippine city alone after one of the worst storms ever recorded unleashed ferocious winds and giant waves that washed away homes and schools. Corpses hung from tree branches and were scattered along sidewalks and among flattened buildings, while looters raided grocery stores and gas stations in search of food, fuel and water.

Officials projected the death toll could climb even higher when emergency crews reach areas cut off by flooding and landslides. Even in the disaster-prone Philippines, which regularly contends with earthquakes, volcanoes and tropical cyclones, Typhoon Haiyan appears to be the deadliest natural disaster on record.

Haiyan hit the eastern seaboard of the Philippine archipelago on Friday and quickly barreled across its central islands before exiting into the South China Sea, packing winds of 235 kilometers per hour (147 miles per hour) that gusted to 275 kph (170 mph), and a storm surge that caused sea waters to rise 6 meters (20 feet).

It wasn't until Sunday that the scale of the devastation became clear, with local officials on hardest-hit Leyte Island saying that there may be 10,000 dead in the provincial capital of Tacloban alone. Reports also trickled in from elsewhere on the island, and from neighboring islands, indicating hundreds, if not thousands of more deaths, though it will be days before the full extent of the storm's impact can be assessed.

Obama's foreign policy fails yet again

(Cairo) You've got to love the present incumbents of the White House who have gone out of their way in which to attack their allies (UK, Israel, Germany, Saudi Arabia) while getting into bed with those who hate it: North Korea, China, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan.

Well, the US can add another one of its friends to the former list, as angry over how the US has thrown its support with the (now disposed) despotic Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the military government there has decided to have talks with Russia about getting back into bed with them. Yeah, way to go, Obama.

US Navy Christens Next-Generation Aircraft Carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78)

(US) Since Pearl Harbor, the primary instrument of US power projection has been its aircraft carriers. The current iteration (the Nimitz class) first saw service almost 40 years ago, and the last in its class, USS George H.W. Bush, was taken into service 4 years ago. (The class weighs approximately 100,000 tons when fully loaded, is capable of steaming faster than thirty knots, self-sustaining for up to ninety days, and launching aircraft to strike targets hundreds of miles away. However, the biggest problems facing the Nimitz class are the limited electrical power generation capability, the upgrade-driven increase in ship weight and erosion of the center-of-gravity margin needed to maintain ship's stability.)

However, no matter how many times you tweak things, the class is 40 years old and to that end the US Navy implemented plans to replace the current carrier fleet with a new and improved model. Which is where the USS Gerald R. Ford class super carriers come in.

Designed from the go to rectify all the issues that have cropped up with the previous design, it is equipped with a phased array radar, an island that is shorter in length, which is 20 feet taller than that of the Nimitz class, it is set 140 feet further aft and three feet closer to the edge of the ship. Electromagnetic catapults (EMALS) will launch aircraft, eliminating the need to store water and heat it for steam catapults. The Ford can accomplish 25% more aircraft launches per day than the Nimitz and requires 25% fewer crew members. The U.S. Navy estimates it will save $4 billion in operating costs over a 50-year lifespan.

Anyway, the Navy christened the USS Gerald R. Ford on Saturday with the traditional smashing of a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow of the ship. With Chavez long dead, the madness still continues in Venezuela

(Caracas) One thing that is a proven fact is that communism, no matter what its form, simply just does not work. We saw this in Eastern Europe, we saw this in Russia, we saw this in China and we definitely saw it in Cambodia. Every state which adopted the all for one and one for all mantra of the various little red books have found that actually as in the book 'Animal Farm' only the first half of that statement became fact - "all for one", and that the latter half didn't apply to the rest, especially poor Boxer. Which is why they all got rid of communism. However, there are people who haven't learned from history and still proclaim to the masses that communism is the way to go. (British trade unions for example.) And they wax lyrical from the pulpit that if we all do as they say then everybody will be alight. Which brings me to Venezuela.

Venezuela is an oil rich country, it is also a fertile country blessed with everything it needs to be self sufficient. However, in 1999 military strong man Hugo Chavez came to power and adopted the way of the little red book, and we find 14 years later that under his leadership Venezuelans have to suffer power, water, food, fuel and even toilet paper shortages. He clamped down on free speech, he promoted anti-Semitism, he has destabilised the region with his support for terrorist groups and by importing enough Russian and Chinese weapon systems to start a small arms race in the region. But Chavez died in March this year. You'd think whoever took over would try to rectify his mistakes, alas no, his successor President Nicolas Maduro continues the left-wing polices of Hugo and instead of looking in the mirror for the reason why Venezuela is a basket case, he blames anybody and everybody. (Usually the US and the Jews).

Well, with a crumbling support base, El Prezidente has hit on a plan (like all South American despots) to win the support of the people. He started off with the creation of a new Ministry of Supreme Social Happiness. This he followed by declaring an early Christmas, and now he has accused a electrical chain store of inflating the prices of the goods it sells, so he's nationalised the five-store, 500-employee Daka chain, sent soldiers to occupy the shops, and forced the company to start selling products at cheaper prices.

Wow, I wonder what he will do next, declare war on a smaller neighbour? Isn't it great how communism only delivers on paper and never the real world?

Car bomb detonated outside hotel in Mogadishu, kills 11

(Somalia) You can always tell when it's Friday (the Islamic holy day), as it's also the day when people are murdered in the name of Allah. Today was no different when a bloody idiot detonated a vehicle IED outside hotel Makkah Al-Mukarama in the capital, killing 11 people and injuring 16. No doubt some idiot will find an excuse for the bloody carnage carried out in the name of their god.

Why do we accept what Muslims tell us as the truth?

(Manchester) How many times have you heard some idiot say that Muslims can't do this, that or the other because it is against their faith and because they are talking about Islam they are allowed to get off scot free?

For example, did you hear about the chef who tried to sue the (London) Met Police because he was forced to fry bacon, which was against his faith? He took 6 months off on stress leave before he signed his lawyers up. Problem is, it came out in the wash that he (the chef) liked nothing more than to sit down with a cup of tea and... a bacon sandwich, and he lost the case.

It's the same with this POV that all Muslims are uber pious and that they cannot go near alcohol. Funny enough, each and every Islamic grooming gang in the UK has been found to have piled their victims with... alcohol. Which brings me to 29-year-old drunk driver Mohammed Yasin, who crashed into a bus shelter while under the influence with his 4-year-old son in the back. In court, his defence claimed:

“Yasin was curious what alcohol tasted like because of his culture. He purchased half a bottle of vodka and mixed it with coke – and his son was present when he bought it.”

So let me get this straight: this man wanted to know what vodka tasted like and not only bought a bottle while out driving but bought some coke in which to flavour it with. Please. Even a blind man wearing sunglasses in a darkroom at midnight could tell you this man is lying out of his arse. For his so called lapse in judgement, Mohammed was sentenced to 12 weeks’ jail, suspended for a year and banned for two years. He was also ordered to attend a drivers’ impaired by alcohol programme, along with £85 costs and £80 surcharge. Anybody else would have had the book thrown at them, but when it's a Muslim, well, we all know that they cannot lie. The thing is, this isn't the first time drunk Muslims have got it lightly while being intoxicated. Take for example when 4 drunk Somali Muslim women attacked a white girl in the centre of Leicester and during the attack were screaming "Kill the white bitch!" All 4 walked free from court because their defence claimed

"[t]hat as Muslims, the women were not used to being drunk."

When will people wake up to the fact that for all their so called pious religious demeanour, Muslims have all the vices the rest of us have? If anything, more.

How the bBC has become Islam's bitch

(London) For those of you who come here often, you will know that I have no love for the bBC over its pro-Islamic terrorist stance. Some of you may think I am being petty and that I am wrong.

Well, here is a letter published on the Muslim Council of Britain's (MCB) website where they complain about the use of the term 'Islamic terrorists' in regards to... Islamic terrorists. The letter gives a party political broadcast about how the MCB sees things in Kashmir, that the people of Kashmir wish to belong to Pakistan and that India is a nasty, nasty country for not handing over a part of it to anybody who demands it, and that, as per usual, the only people who are victims are... Muslims.

But what is worse is the weasel response by the head of editorial policy at the bBC. Sorry, did I say weasel? I meant spineless.

Is there anything Muslims won't complain about?

(Texas) In the US, a billboard has got tongues wagging about the picture it depicts:

I am more than happy to debate any subject and I am man enough to know when I am wrong. However, a picture which shows an American soldier holding onto (I presume) his wife who happens to be covered up is exactly the message I want to see. The thing is, while the left love to promote this view that the American and British military can only be racist, the fact remains in the forces - you are judged not by the colour of your skin but by how good you are at the job. Also, and a big also, as the military serve all around the world, they fall in love with and marry people from other lands. I myself have met Americans, Canadians, Dutch, Filipinos, Germans and even Indians married to British servicemen. I expect the same for the Americans. That at a stroke dispels the racist tag that idiots try to tag onto our servicemen. (The fact that I come from an Indian bloodline really bamboozles them.)

So why wasn't I surprised to see this article in The Guardian today from a Muslim woman living in the States stating that the above billboard is... racist?

The ad placing a covered Muslim woman with a US soldier perpetuates stereotypes. As an Iraqi, it's horribly offensive

It seems that Aseel Machi, a recent graduate of Michigan State University now living in Texas, took umbridge at the above poster. I quote from her article:

To many, seeing a US soldier and a Muslim woman who is almost completely covered as a happily married couple is odd and unfathomable....SnoreStop did not stop at profiling and stereotyping what a Muslim woman looks like, they placed her in the arms of a US solider. As an Iraqi, when I see a man dressed in camouflage and matching hat with a Muslim woman in his arms, I think of the atrocities committed against not only men, but women and children, during the brutal years of "democracy and liberation" that ravaged my country on the whims of US and international armed forces. Women and girls – some as young as 15 – reportedly raped by soldiers between 2003 and 2004 may have something else to say about this billboard. To place a Muslim woman, who does not even represent the mainstream image of a Muslim in America, in the hands of a man who represents an institution responsible for the terror and agony of many Muslims in the world (not only in Iraq) is not simply insensitive, but disturbing.

Really? And she knows this how? What I find interesting is that this ungrateful bitch left Iraq in 1991 because Saddam was out to kill her Shia family, and they arrived in the US in 1994 after Sunni Saudi Arabia didn't want to know. Yet like the Muslim she is, instead of vetting her anger at the people who tried to kill her family, she bitches at the the people who took her in, and, as only a Muslim can, she bites the hand that feeds her. This she eloquently does by saying:

I am against the stereotyping of Muslim women and what the US military represents to Muslims: a violent institution that does not seek the freedom of Muslim countries or the security of the United States.

The thing is, Saddam has more Islamic blood on his hands than any recent Islamic dictator. More Muslims have been killed in Iraq by Muslims than any other religious cause. (1,057 Iraqis were killed and 2,326 wounded this July.) And yet this silly little split-arse living in the US takes umbrage at a poster which shows a US Soldier and an Islamic woman. The thing is, the only racist I can see is Machi for objecting over a poster which shows a white man with an Islamic woman. I wonder if she would be happy if the man in uniform was a Muslim. But surely, that is racism, and the daft point, the pathetic left in the West will support her case.

Saudi Arabia kicks out over 1 million illegal immigrants

(Jeddah) In an attempt to clean up their country, the authorities in Saudi Arabia issued an ultimatum to its illegal immigrants: leave or face the consequences. Which is why up to 1 million illegal Bangladeshi, Indian, Filipino, Nepali, Pakistani and Yemeni immigrants have upped sticks and left for pastures new.

In Jeddah, 3,000 Indonesian illegal workers are in detention, awaiting deportation. It appears that when you really do want to clean your country up, you have to act hard.

Meanwhile in the UK, a recent anti-illegal immigrant campaign which costs £10,000, saw 60 people leave, and while the British Government sees that as a success, the left and their ilk claim it is racist. Funny enough, nobody on the left wishes to discuss how Saudi Arabia goes about doing the job.

Expect to see a large number of those 1 million illegals turning up in the UK.

Islamic terrorist gives British police the slip, by donning one

(UK) In the UK, a terrorist has gone on the run. The British police, while stating that they feel that while Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed does not poses a direct threat to people, he should not be approached. So what's the story behind this man?

After Labour's failed experiment in opening the doors of UK PLC, in which to allow everybody and anybody to come to the UK and get paid to do so, they found to their horror that a large number of these new British citizens were terrorists. Oh, how they had no problem perching to the left that according to the Koran they were forbidden from attacking the UK. It didn't take long for that statement to be turned on its head. The Labour government then started locking these people up, whom they couldn't deport (because of their human rights) or charge, in which to keep them off the streets. However, as always, dickless human rights activists complained that locking these people up was against their human rights, and so this government brought out a watered down regime which basically allows terrorists to go about strutting their stuff, in which to get the civil liberties crowd off their backs.

So this brings me back to Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed. It transpires that he has received terrorist training in Somalia, fought on the front line in support of al-Shabab, that he supports a UK-based network supporting terrorist-related activity in Somalia, and had been involved in attack planning against Western interests in east Africa. So instead of ripping up this religious terrorist's British passport and deporting him to Somalia (it's against his human rights), we spend millions having him and his ilk followed and then act all surprised when he slips his MI stupid followers by covering up as a woman. (The same idiots who stopped the British locking up terrorists also claim that wearing the burka is a human right.)

Tell you what, human rights no longer protects the weak in the UK, it defends those who want to kill you for being a non-Muslim.

Left up in arms over the death (from above) of Taliban leader in Pakistan

(Pakistan)  On Friday Leader of Pakistan Taliban terrorists Hakimullah Mehsud: was sent to a far hotter place when the vehicle he was travelling in came to a sudden stop due to the impact at the speed of sound of a couple of Guided missiles. The bBC which was devoted to this terrorist has been running non stop on how his death was a crime against humanity, how he was about to usher in a time of peace and how the Americans always scupper any chance for peace when it comes to....Terrorists. (Read the above bBC link to see what I mean, talk about overkill)

Currently the bBC are running with the same angle I quote:

"Friday's strike on Mehsud was "not just the killing of one person, it's the death of all peace efforts."

The thing is Mehsud belonged to the factions which were opposed to peace, yes he wanted it, but he did so on his own terms, terms which would have seen harsh Sharia law (Which would make Saudi Arabia look like Tellytubby land) enforced across the land. Hamas: Egypt's tunnel closure costs Gaza $230 million monthly

Cairo suicide bomber identified as ex-army officer

Cairo (AFP) - Jihadists have released a video of a suicide bombing in which an ex-army major reveals himself as the attacker who tried to kill Egypt's interior minister in September.

A senior interior ministry official confirmed the bomber, Walid Badr, was a major in the military before his expulsion in 2005 for "extremist" views.

In the video posted on YouTube on Saturday by the Sinai-based Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, Badr can be seen explaining his motives before detonating a car bomb close to a convoy carrying Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim.

The revelation of Badr's army past comes at a time of heightened conflict between Islamists and the military, which overthrew Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July after mass protests demanding his resignation.

More than 1,000 people, mostly Islamists, have been killed and 2,000 arrested in an ensuing crackdown.

Wave of Car Bombings Kill at Least 62 People in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP) — A series of car bombings in Baghdad, an explosion at a market and a suicide assault in a northern city killed at least 62 people Sunday across Iraq, officials said, the latest in a wave of attacks washing over the country.

Coordinated bombings hit Iraq multiple times each month, feeding a spike in bloodshed that has killed more than 5,000 people since April. The local branch of al-Qaida often takes responsibility for the assaults, although there was no immediate claim for Sunday's blasts.

Sunday's attacks were the deadliest single-day series of assaults since Oct. 5, when 75 people were killed in violence.

Police officers said that the bombs in the capital, placed in parked cars and detonated over a half-hour period, targeted commercial areas and parking lots, killing 42 people.

The deadliest blasts struck in the southeastern Nahrwan district, where two car bombs exploded simultaneously, killing seven and wounding 15, authorities said. Two other explosions hit the northern Shaab and southern Abu Dshir neighborhoods, each killing six people, officials said. Other blasts hit the neighborhoods of Mashtal, Baladiyat and Ur in eastern Baghdad, the southwestern Bayaa district and the northern Sab al-Bor and Hurriyah districts.

Meanwhile, in the northern city of Mosul, a suicide bomber drove his explosives-laden car into a group of soldiers as they were sealing off a street leading to a bank where troops were receiving salaries, killing 14, a police officer said. At least 30 people were wounded, the officer said. Also in Mosul, police said gunmen shot dead two off-duty soldiers in a drive-by shooting.

Syrian Kurds rout al-Qaeda jihadists on Iraq border

Damascus (AFP) - Syrian Kurds drove jihadists from an Iraq border crossing in fierce clashes Saturday, activists said, as the UN-Arab League envoy took his regional peace mission to regime ally Iran.

Fighters from both sides were killed, a day after Syria's regime and its opponents traded blame for a car bomb attack on a mosque that left dozens dead.

The Kurds "took control of the Al-Yaarubia border crossing with Iraq at dawn after clashes with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Al-Nusra Front and other rebels," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, citing activists. [...]

The loss of Al-Yaarubia would deny ISIL -- an Al-Qaeda affiliate that has carried out major attacks on both sides of the border -- a vital conduit for fighters and arms.

Meanwhile, the Al-Nusra Front, another Al-Qaeda-linked group, denied a Syrian state TV report that its leader, Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, had been killed.

On other battlefronts, rebels seized the town of Tafas, which links the eastern and western sectors of Daraa province along the Jordanian border, the Observatory said.

And scores have been killed in clashes over the past week between troops and rebels for control of a large, highly strategic arsenal in Mahin, in the central province of Homs, it added.

"There have been at least 100 killed from among the ranks of the army and dozens more among the rebels and jihadists, which include foreign fighters," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

74 Boko Haram Terrorists Killed in Nigerian Attack

(VOA) New clashes are reported in northeastern Nigeria, where militants raided a state capital late Thursday. Meantime, the army says it killed more than 70 militants in a different location.

The region is the center of the Boko Haram insurgency, blamed for thousands of deaths over the past four years.

Suspected Boko Haram fighters entered the town of Damaturu, capital of Yobe state, late afternoon Thursday, and, according to Nigerian newspapers, attacked police and security buildings.

Police and soldiers exchanged gunfire with the militants Friday morning, according to one resident.

A spokesman for the military's Joint Task Force, Capt. Eli Lazarus, declined to give casualty figures for either side.

Authorities have since imposed a 24-hour curfew in Yobe state.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army says 74 Boko Haram fighters were killed during an air-and-ground assault Thursday in nearby Borno state.

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Muhammed Dole says the operation in the Mainok area destroyed a terrorist camp and several vehicles. He says two soldiers were wounded.

Russian security forces hunt for husband of suicide bomber who killed 6 and wounded more than 30

VOLGOGRAD, Russia (AP) — Russian security forces hunted on Tuesday for the husband of a bomber who blew herself up on a bus in southern Russia, killing six people and wounding more than 30. They also raised the possibility that Moscow, not Volgograd, was the bomber's original target.

Adding to the mystery surrounding Monday's explosion, Russian state television released pictures of the attacker's passport that looked different, even though they carried the same number.

Investigators say 30-year-old Naida Asiyalova, a native of the volatile province of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus region, was married to an ethnic Russian man who had joined Islamic militants. They say her husband, Dmitry Sokolov, has become a top rebel expert in explosives and could have been involved in equipping his wife for the suicide mission.

Sokolov has been on the run since he left his home in a Moscow suburb in the summer of 2012, according to the investigators.

The bombing in the southern Volgograd region was the first attack against a civilian target outside the volatile North Caucasus region in years, raising fears of a new wave of terror just three-and-half months before the start of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. [...]

The bomb was rigged with shrapnel, which caused severe injuries and left many of the wounded in grave condition. Most of the passengers were students coming home after lessons.

Dmitry Yudin, a student who suffered a concussion and arm wound, said he had noticed Asiyalova when she boarded the bus because she wore a dark Islamic headscarf. He told The Associated Press the suspected attacker looked "calm and collected" and kept a low profile.

Rasul Temirbekov, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee's regional branch in Dagestan, said Asiyalova met Sokolov, a university student, in Moscow and recruited him to join the rebels in Dagestan. He studied Islam and the Arabic, took the nom de guerre of Abdul Jabbar and quickly gained a reputation with the militants.

Investigators believe Sokolov had prepared explosives for a suicide bomber who blew herself up outside the regional branch of Russia's Interior Ministry in Dagestan in May, killing 12 people.

Bell unveils V-280 Valor mock-up

(USA) Bell has released this image of a full-scale mock-up of its V-280 Valor tiltrotor. The Valor is a third-generation tilt-rotor concept being developed by Bell Helicopter and Lockheed Martin for the United States Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program. FVL is meant to develop a replacement for the Army's UH-60 Black Hawk, AH-64 Apache, CH-47 Chinook, and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters.

The V-280 will have a composite fuselage made by Spirit AeroSystems, a large-cell carbon-core wing, fly-by-wire controls and a V-shaped tail. It also incorporates lessons the company learned from its V-22 Osprey tiltrotor which Bell produced in partnership with Boeing. The V-22 is used by the US Marine Corps and US Air Force and has completed nearly 200,000 flight hours. However, unlike the V-22, the V-280's engines do not rotate. Rather, only the rotor system tilts.

The V-280 is reported to be designed for a cruising speed of 280 knots (320 mph; 520 km/h), a top speed of 300 knots (350 mph; 560 km/h), a range of 2,100 nautical miles (2,400 mi; 3,900 km), and an effective combat range of 500 to 800 nmi (580 to 920 mi; 930 to 1,500 km).

Why is the UK so good at importing bigots?

(Birmingham) On Monday the 29th of April this year, 82-year-old Mohammed Saleem was walking home from the mosque. He never made it home as he was stabbed to death. The thing is, the police arrested a man after a failed bomb attack on a mosque, and guess what, the guilty party wasn't an Englishman or even British, nah, he was a Ukrainian student who had only been in the country a week.

Now, I am not saying that racism doesn't exist in the UK, but the fact remains that a very large number of people are attacked, raped and killed in the UK by imported people, and yet when somebody tries to point this salient fact out, all I hear is... the British (read English) are racists. Yeah, sure, they are, and the white couple who adopted me and took me into their family are racist bigots also. Meanwhile, the murderer of Mohammed Saleem, 25-year-old Pavlo Lapshyn, has explained the reason why he went on a murderous spree as soon as he arrived in the UK. He told police:

"I would like to increase racial conflict." When asked why he had targeted the mosque, he replied: "Because they are not white - and I am white."

Syria: Suicide bomber, clashes kill over 30 near Damascus

(AFP) A suicide car bombing and assault on a checkpoint in a key Damascus neighbourhood killed 16 Syrian soldiers Saturday, as the UN-Arab League envoy began a regional push for peace talks.

A UN official called for a ceasefire elsewhere in the Damascus suburbs to evacuate thousands of residents from areas besieged by regime forces for months, and where a local cleric has issued a religious ruling allowing the eating of cats and dogs.

(Reuters) The pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 15 rebels and at least 16 soldiers were killed.

The British-based Observatory said the checkpoint explosion, near the suburbs of Mleiha and Jaramana, was detonated by a suicide bomber from the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.

Nusra supporters on Twitter, however, said the bomber had intended to blow himself up in the car, but instead got out before setting off the explosives inside. They said rebel forces had captured the checkpoint hit by the car bomb and were battling to take a second one nearby.

Shunned by Egypt, Hamas reaches out to frenemy Abbas

GAZA (Reuters) - Hamas, its Gaza Strip stronghold cut off by the new military-backed government in Egypt, called upon rival Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday to end their six-year schism and form a unity government.

Egypt brokered a Palestinian reconciliation deal in 2011 but it was never implemented. In Cairo, meanwhile, Islamist President Mohamed Mursi was toppled by the army, which treats Egypt's Hamas neighbors as security threats.

"Our conditions do not allow for keeping up differences," Ismail Haniyeh, prime minister in the Gaza administration, said in a speech calling on Abbas and Fatah to renew dialogue with Hamas, schedule new elections and enter a temporary power-share.

"Let's have one government, one parliament and one president," Haniyeh said.

The overture was received coolly by Fatah, whose leader, Abbas, is engaged in a new round of U.S.-sponsored peace talks with Israel. Hamas refuses coexistence with the Jewish state.

Arab Spring Yummies: Palestinians in Syria 'Eating Cats and Dogs'

(INN) In his Friday sermon, an imam at the Palestinian Al-Yarmouk camp south of Damascus gave local residents permission to eat dead cats and dogs. The camp has been under siege for three months, the humanitarian situation there has severely deteriorated and the supply of food has not been steady, reports Shalom Toronto.

Palestinians in Syria are, generally speaking, loyal to Bashar al-Assad's regime, but gunmen from the rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) entered the strategically located Yarmouk camp in large numbers, prompting the Syrian army to attack the camp.

The Syrian army, reinforced by Shiite forces from Iraq – the Abu Fadel Abbas militia – and Hizbullah forces from Lebanon, recently launched a massive attack on the rural areas south and east of Damascus in an attempt to clenase them of rebel forces.

South of Damascus, the Syrian effort is directed mainly at Ma'adamia al-Sham, which is located next to an air force base, and toward communities located along the highway that leads to the city of Al-Saida Zainab, which is sacred to the Shiites and where Shiite forces from Iraq and Lebanon are stationed.

Syrian television reported advances on both fronts. At Ma'adamia al-Sham, the civilians were evacuated with the aid of the Red Crescent. On the eastern front, several villages were reportedly captured.

Palestinian Comedy Hour: Abbas: We Can't Pay Salaries, and it's All Israel's Fault

(INN) Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas blamed Israel over the weekend for the PA’s difficult economic situation, reports the Ma’an news agency.

In an interview with official television, Abbas expressed concern that the PA would not be able to pay salaries for its employees in November but, as he usually does, found who to blame for it: the Israeli “occupation”.

"The economic situation is really difficult, and the main reason is the Israeli occupation," Abbas said.

"Israel exploits our resources and lands which increased our economic deficit,” charged Abbas, who said that his minister of finance, Shukri Bishara, had informed him that the government would not be able to pay salaries unless international aid arrives.

"We must take responsibility according to the law," he added, according to Ma’an. "We are working on improving our abilities and lowering the unemployment rate by supporting small enterprises."

The PA has complained of a financial crisis, the worse in its history, with its former Prime Minister Salam Fayyad having warned several times that the entity may fail and cease to exist.

The PA, which relies heavily on foreign donors, has been begging the world to step up financial aid in order to save it from collapsing. At the same time it has continued to provide huge monthly salaries to terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons.

The PA leadership has also continuously blamed Israel for its financial crisis, even though Israel collects taxes for the entity and provides it with electricity which the PA fails to pay for.

In June, Israel and the PA decided to resume the economic cooperation between them and, more recently, agreed to renew the agricultural accords that were in place prior to the outbreak of the “Second Intifada” terror war in 2000.

Eiffel Tower evacuated after telephone threat

Paris (AFP) - The Eiffel Tower, France's top tourist draw, was evacuated on Sunday and the area ringed by security forces.

A police source said the action followed a threat delivered over the telephone but did not give any details.

Evacuations have been staged regularly at the Paris landmark, usually after bomb threats. There have been two such incidents this year on March 30 and August 9.

On June 18 the monument was closed for two hours after a man threatened to commit suicide.

The Eiffel Tower is the world's most visited monument attracting up to 32,000 tourists daily.

Al Qaeda-linked Islamists destroy Sufi shrine in eastern Syria

AMMAN (Reuters) - A Sufi Muslim shrine was blown up in eastern Syria on Sunday, opposition activists said, blaming al Qaeda-affiliated militants who have joined in the increasingly sectarian civil war.

Militants placed explosives at the shrine of Sheikh Eissa Abdelqader al-Rifaiy in the rebel-held town of Busaira, 45 km (30 miles) east of the provincial capital of Deir al-Zor, and detonated them on Sunday morning, they said.

The activists contacted by Reuters said they suspected al Qaeda-linked fighters of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were behind the explosion.

"The Islamic State has a base outside the town. The ease by which they got to the shrine indicates that their presence is growing," activist Abu al-Tayyeb al-Deiri said from Deir al-Zor.

Video footage and a photo released by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group showed the shrine reduced to a field of shattered rock and twisted metal with trees and a small domed building in the background.

Several graves and other sites belonging to the Sufi sect, a mystical school of Islam opposed by puritanical Salafists from which al Qaeda draws its ranks, have been burnt or destroyed in the province in the past few months, opposition sources said.

7 Red Cross workers kidnapped in northern Syria

BEIRUT (AP) — Gunmen kidnapped a team of seven workers from the International Committee of the Red Cross after stopping their convoy early Sunday along a roadside in northern Syria, a spokesman said.

Simon Schorno, a spokesman for the ICRC in Damascus, said the abduction took place near the town of Saraqeb in Idlib province around 11:30 a.m. local time (0830 GMT) as they team was returning to Damascus. Six of the people kidnapped are ICRC staff workers and one is a volunteer from the Syrian Red Crescent, he said.

Schorno declined to provide the nationalities of the six ICRC employees.

Syria's state news agency, quoting an anonymous official, said the gunmen opened fire on the ICRC team's four vehicles before seizing the Red Cross workers. The news agency blamed "terrorists," a term the government uses to refer to those opposed to President Bashar Assad.

Schorno said the team of seven had been in the field since Oct. 10 to assess the medical situation in the area and to look at how to provide medical aid. He said the part of northern Syria where they were seized "by definition is a difficult area to go in."

Much of the countryside in Idlib province, as well as the rest of northern Syria, has fallen into the hands of rebels over the past year, and kidnappings have become rife, particularly of aid workers and foreign journalists.

Egypt: Detained US citizen found hanged in police cell

(AFP) An American citizen detained by Egyptian police since August for breaking curfew has been found hanged in his cell in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, Egyptian security officials said on Sunday.

An American found hanged in his police cell in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya on Sunday was believed to have committed suicide, Egyptian security officials said.

They said the body of James Henry, 55, who told authorities he was a "retired officer", was found at noon at Ismailiya Awal police station.

The US embassy in Cairo confirmed "that a US citizen prisoner in Ismailiya died from an apparent suicide."

"The embassy is in contact with authorities regarding the case and continues to provide all consular services," an embassy official told AFP.

Egyptian officials said Henry had been detained in August for violating a curfew imposed because of the latest wave of political unrest sweeping the country.

He was stopped on the road between El-Arish and Rafah in North Sinai and told authorities he was on his way to the neighbouring Gaza Strip.

Officials told AFP that a US embassy delegation had visited Henry in his cell last week.

His death comes a day after he was told that authorities were extending his preventative detention by another 30 days.

Attacks across Iraq kill at least 31

BAGHDAD (AP) — A string of bombings in mostly Shiite-majority cities across Iraq on Sunday killed at least 31 people and wounded dozens, officials said, a grim reminder of the government's failure to stem the uptick in violence that is feeding sectarian tensions in the country.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest attacks, but car bombs are frequently used by al-Qaida's Iraq branch.

The Sunni militant group and other Sunni extremists often targets Shiite civilians in an effort to undermine the Shiite-led government. Al-Qaida's extremist ideology considers Shiites heretics.

The deadliest of Sunday's attacks, which targeted mainly commercial areas and bus stations, was in the southern city of Hillah, 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad. Back-to-back car bombings hit an outdoor market there, killing eight people and wounding 22, a police officer said.

Two parked car bombs ripped through a commercial area in the city of Suwayrah, 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 14. Two other car bombs exploded simultaneously in the city of Kut, 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, killing four and wounded 16.

In nearby city of Samawah, 370 kilometers (230 miles) southeast of Baghdad, four people were killed and 13 wounded when two car bombs exploded. Two other car bombs killed three and wounded 13 in the city of Diwaniyah, 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of the capital.

In the northern city of Samarra, two people were killed and 15 were wounded when a bomb targeted a gathering of mourners for some of the 17 people who were killed in a car bombing there on Saturday. Five other people were killed and 34 were wounded in other attacks in the southern city of Basra and the central towns of Mahmoudiyah and Madain.

Medical officials confirmed the causalities. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

More than 5,000 people have been killed in Iraq since attacks began accelerating in April following a deadly security crackdown against a Sunni protest camp in the northern town of Hawija.

With today's death toll, at least 258 people were killed so far in October. The latest surge in violence has raised fears that Iraq could be returning to widespread sectarian killings similar to those that brought country to the edge of civil war in 2006 and 2007.

I wrote an article in October of 2004 describing how “Israelis build with Nobel Prizes and Arabs build with suicide bombers”, which I might have regurgitated again in October 2013 because nothing has changed since. Israelis and Jewish scientists still manage to advance their societies and Arabs still manage to destroy theirs with violence, ignorance, and zealotry.

I think if Prophet Mohammad and Prophet Abraham had a conversation today, it would be that short:

Prophet Mohammad: “Avram, what did I do wrong?”

Prophet Abraham: “Nothing my friend. You helped the Jews get rid of dead weight”

No Arab or Muslim scientists will shine as long as Islam does not face its shortcomings in a world too modern for our societies to produce any meaningful progress, even if we care to halt our violent streak right away.

We marry helpless 9-years old as if we lived in the 7th century, we sexually deform baby girls to suck the pleasure of life out of them, and we embrace a sword to show our commitment to Islam when Christianity embraces books and Judaism embraces laboratories. What a surprise it is to watch Christianity and Judaism contribute to humanity while Islam contributes the blood of others.

The day that a Syrian, and Arab, and a Muslim like myself can watch his civilization excel in the service of mankind instead of watching our leaders gas helpless children and women is long overdue and so far in the future. Our salvation remains in the hands of others we are happy to chop just because they chose a Prophet who died for their sins or another Prophet who connected them with God while we remained loyal to the Prophet who raised his sword.

Benjamin Franklin said, “Admiration is the daughter of ignorance”. Maybe we should stop admiring ourselves and begin concentrating on dropping that sword.

‘Terror tunnel’ discovered running from Gaza to Israel

(Times of Israel) Security forces last week discovered and rendered unusable an underground tunnel linking Gaza and Israel, likely intended to facilitate a terror attack or kidnapping attempt inside Israel, the IDF said Sunday morning.

The tunnel, which an official said was particularly wide and about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long, started in Abbasan al-Saghira, a farming village near Khan Yunis, in Gaza, and terminated inside Israel about three kilometers from Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, in the western Negev.

$634 Million ObamaCare Website Company was Fired by Canada

Obama could have hired an American company to write the crappy code but it would not have been crappy enough. So he hired a company with a proven history of failure.

(FPM) So Obama took a Canadian company that Canadian officials fired for screwing up their health care website and gave it a much bigger job.

Canadian provincial health officials last year fired the parent company of CGI Federal, the prime contractor for the problem-plagued Obamacare health exchange websites, the Washington Examiner has learned.

CGI Federal’s parent company, Montreal-based CGI Group, was officially terminated in September 2012 by an Ontario government health agency after the firm missed three years of deadlines and failed to deliver the province’s flagship online medical registry.

The online registry was supposed to be up and running by June 2011.

The CMS officials refused to say if federal officials knew of its parent company’s IT failure in Canada when awarding the six contracts.

It wasn’t just those contracts. As mentioned earlier, Obama dumped huge amounts of money on CGI.

CGI Federal is a subsidiary of Montreal-based CGI Group. With offices in Fairfax, Va., the subsidiary has been a darling of the Obama administration, which since 2009 has bestowed it with $1.4 billion in federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov.

HHS is by far the single largest federal contractor of CGI, showering it with $645 million in contracts. The Defense Department pays the Canadian company $254 million, the EPA $58 million and the Justice Department $36 million.

In comparison, in 2008, under President George W. Bush, CGI contracts totaled only $16.5 million for all federal departments and agencies.

The interesting question is why Obama dumped 1.4 billion in taxpayer money on a company this incompetent and ignored all the warnings.

It’s one more thing that ought to be investigated.

France charges Al-Qaeda suspect deported from Pakistan

Paris (AFP) - A French-Algerian man suspected of Al-Qaeda ties and deported from Pakistan this week has been charged with terror offences, French judicial officials said on Saturday.

Intelligence officials believe Naamen Meziche was once connected to Al-Qaeda's so-called "Hamburg cell", which planned the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

Deported on Tuesday, he was charged and remanded in custody in Paris on Friday for criminal conspiracy in relation with a terrorist enterprise, with a view to carrying out criminal acts, the source said.

Meziche had been in Pakistani custody since being arrested in May 2012 in the southwest of the country along with three other suspected French jihadis, who were sent back to France in April and charged on the same count.

Born in Paris in 1970, Meziche left France in the early 1990s for Afghanistan, then Germany where he is alleged to have come into close contact with the "Hamburg Cell".

He has been known to intelligence officials for more than a decade, though he has no criminal record in Europe.

French law gives authorities broad powers to detain and prosecute a suspect for intending to carry out terrorist acts or contacting organisations suspected of terrorism.

Though Meziche is suspected of being a long-time Al-Qaeda member, no proof has yet emerged of his involvement in any specific act of terror, and security officials are divided about how big a player he is.

One French anti-terror officer told AFP this week Meziche was "a big fish -- right in the... heart of Al-Qaeda".

But another source close to the case said it was "hard to say if he is an active player or a bit of a has-been".

US forces in Afghanistan capture senior commander of Pakistani Taliban

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. forces in Afghanistan have captured senior Pakistani Taliban commander Latif Mehsud in a military operation and detained him under a law authorizing use of force against al Qaeda following the 2001 attacks, the Pentagon said on Friday.

The arrest of Mehsud, a trusted deputy to Tehreek-e-Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud, could be a big blow to the group, which seeks to topple the U.S.-backed government Pakistan but has also taken aim at U.S. forces in Afghanistan and sought to strike the United States itself.

A Pentagon spokeswoman said Mehsud was captured in a U.S. military operation in Afghanistan, but The Washington Post reported on Friday that he was forcibly snatched from an Afghan government convoy in Logar province several weeks ago as Afghan officials were trying to recruit him to launch peace talks.

The Post said the incident, viewed as a major breach of Afghan sovereignty, enraged Afghan President Hamid Karzai and had contributed to a chill in U.S.-Afghan relations at a time when American officials are pressing for a deal to let a small force of U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan after 2014.

Pentagon officials declined to comment on the Post report.

The Pakistani Taliban, or TTP, is believed to have trained Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad in bomb-making techniques and funded his plot to detonate a car bomb in New York's Times Square in 2010. The device failed to explode and was defused by a bomb squad.

The group has been involved in many attacks within Pakistan. These have included attacks on U.S. diplomats and assaults that have killed Pakistani civilians.

Obama-supported jihadists make gains in inter-rebel Syria clashes, with nearly 50 killed in 3 days

Damascus (AFP) - Clashes between jihadists and mainstream rebels in Syria's second city Aleppo have killed nearly 50 people in three days, a watchdog said Saturday, adding that the jihadists made several gains.

A recent surge in fighting among Syria's rebels has cast further doubt on the already slim prospects for a negotiated settlement between the rebels and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The report of battles between groups that share the aim of ousting Assad came as mortar fire in Damascus claimed the lives of four civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group that relies on a network of activists across the war-torn country, said the inter-rebel fighting in Aleppo erupted on Thursday.

It pitted militants of the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against a battalion linked to the Arab- and Western-backed Free Syrian Army.

"At least 30 fighters from the (FSA's) Ababil Brigade and 14 from ISIL have been killed in combat, and that toll could rise further," the Observatory's Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

He said the clashes rocked several districts of Syria's former commercial hub, and that ISIL, which expounds an extreme form of Islam, made gains in three sectors.
