Yemen: Attack on Aircraft carrying new Government kills 25 injures 100

(Aden) At least 26 people have been killed and more than 60 injured after an attack on the airport in the Yemeni city of Aden that appeared to be targeted at a plane carrying members of the newly formed government.

 

Yemen’s new unity government sworn in last week in Saudi Arabia is made up from the internationally recognised government led by the president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC), the organisation currently in charge of Aden had just landed at Aden international airport when missiles (as seen on video) struck the area around where the plane had landed, a further attack was made after the people on the plane were taken to the presidential palace.  Seeing as  both the STC and the Yemeni government are anti Houthi , it doesn’t take a genius to work out this was the work of the Shai Houthi rebels most likely under the instruction of their Iranian masters.

Two things spring to mind regards the aboove story: 1) After numerious atatcks using long distance drones, crusie missiels, long range missiles . why did the government allow hundreds of people to congragate on a runway at a known time when the threat of a terrorist atatck was hugh? 2) The Western media fed a diet of Iranian funded lies about the so caleld death toll in Yemen, never take to task iran over its numerious atatcks across the region, but isntead concentrate on how nasty Saudi Arabia is. yet Saudi Arabia stopped all offensive air atatcks in 2017 and since then has only retaliated to Houthi and Iranian provacations Funny that.

Yemen: What is happening in Yemen

(Sana'a)   The conflict in Yemen is one mired in confusion and a lot of propaganda. In a nutshell The dictator for life Ali Abdullah Saleh was ousted from power by the people during the Yemeni revolution in 2012 which was but one branch of the Arab spring which had brought down numerous dictators for life across the Arab world.  Unlike the rest Saleh was allowed to leave office with the $60 billion he had pilfered and told he was ok if he kept out of the country.  Unfortunately for somebody who had been in power since 1978 (North Yemen 1978-1990, unified Yemen  1990-2012)

Saleh couldn't let go and so he returned to the north of the country in 2015 (The former North Yemen) and throwing in his clan with the local tribesmen (The Houthi) they decided to try and take control of the county which saw them capture the former lands of North Yemen and expand somewhat slightly and take the area around Aden. 

There they were defeated when Saudi Arabia throw in its lot with the President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi since then the Houthi have been pushed back into what was North Yemen , where the geography of the land (mountainous) has kept them safe until they decided to murder Saleh in December 2017 followed by a murderous clamp down on his clan. They on mass decided to throw in their lot with Hadi and the Saudis and since then the Houthi have lost a lot of land mainly lowlands, 

but they remain tight in the mountainous areas they still hold.

Now this is where it gets murky , the Houthi are Shia Muslims and as such have the support of Shai Iran, whose mullahs are happy to cause trouble for the Sunni Muslims of the Gulf nations, primarily their regional rival Saudi Arabia which just happens to be next door. In fact the first thing the Houthi did when they took the West of the country was throw in their lot with Tehran. Which kind of explains the advance weaponry the Houthi have apparently invented themselves (like the over 200 Scud missiles launched into Saudi Arabia)  The recent use of tactical cruise missiles 

Since the reversal of Houthi fortunes after they removed Salah and his clans, there has been in play a huge propaganda effort in which to play the victim card for the houthi, This has been aimed at the peace groups in the West and are surely funded by Iran. For example until Jan this year the death toll for the war was around 6000 people, now that figure has been risen these past few months to over 230K  really 250 thousand people killed in 4 months,  Much has been made of millions starving, yet the only people starving are those in Houthi held areas and that is due not to the Saudi backed Yemani army, rather it is due to the Houthi. In fact yesterday the UN stated it was going to have to stop food aid to the Houthi areas due to the theft of aid by the Houthi.

Funny how all the do-gooders in the West remain silent on this.

(Dhalea) The fight for the area around Qatabah appears to be on its last legs as the Houthi rebels lost 80 armed thugs in a failed attempt to win back areas they had lost to the Yemani government this past week. Including in that toll was Yehya Al Rezami the Houthi commander specially brought in in which to try and reverse the rebel’s losses.

Ramadan Death Count: Yemen 15/05/19

(Qa’atabah) The squeeze continues on the Iranian backed Houthi rebels inside Yemen with the opening of a surprise new front centred around the city of Qa’atabah which is situated just outside the mountainous terrain the rebels still hold. The initial attack saw around 40 rebels killed on Sunday, the follow up operation has resulted in an further 97 Houthi rebels killed and an additional 120 taken prisoner. It seems that with Iran now having to concentrate on what is happening around its own borders,  add the huge shortfall in oil revenue , it is no longer able to fund the mischief it has been carrying out inside Yemen as it used to do. Expect further set backs for the rebels in the coming months.

(Al-Bayda) A Yemeni national army follow up operation taking advantage of a failed Houthi attack in Az Zahir district, saw 27 Houthi rebels killed in clashes with the Yemeni army in southeastern Al-Bayda province thursday.

(Hodeida)  On the last day of Ramadan, Saudi Forces have taken the airport from the Iranian backed Houthi rebels.  Opening up their advance with a huge artillery and air bombing campaign, the coalition inflicted huge losses on the Houthi rebels who made the huge mistake of thinking that fighting on flat open plains is exactly the same as fighting in their mountainous redoubts , which is why over 280 of them were killed yesterday trying to defend the airport.

Saudi sappers are now clearing the airport area of mines ,bobby traps and IEDs, whilst their forces march onto the city centre , just 2 kilometres away.

(Hodeida) Heavy clashes killed 39 combatants outside Yemen's rebel-held port city of Hodeida on Thursday, as the Saudi and UAE-backed offensive to retake the key aid hub entered its second day.

Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels suffered 30 fatalities in the fighting, which took place two kilometres (1.2 miles) from Hodeida airport, south of the city,  Nine pro-government troops were killed in the same area, the medics said. Military sources said the deaths were caused by mines and snipers.

Yemen: Saudi Forces begin the attack on the Port of Hudaida

(Yemen)  Forces under the banner of the Saudi Arabian coalition inside Yemen this morning struck the port city of Hudaida after  the Houthis rebels ignored the government's offer of a peaceful settlement, which expired on Tuesday night. The government said it had exhausted all possible political and diplomatic means to make the rebels withdraw its forces from the port city.

The attack included airstrikes backed by ground operations, killing more than 250 Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and led to the capture of 140 Houthi soldiers. In response, the Houthi have targeted any  merchant ship sailing by with advanced anti-ship missiles striking a number of them according to the Saudi Ambassador to the US

Yemen: The Battle for Hodeida begins in earnest.

(Hodeida)  The Saudi led advance on the Houthis (rebel) held port of Hodeida has reached the edges of the city and as such so has the fighting intensified currently around the airport. 

With no air support at all the rebels who use the port as their main conduit for its Iranian supplied heavy weaponry are getting taken out like fish in barrel with over 600 people killed these past couple of days. (Minus the 50 I listed yesterday killed in the city)

(Jizan) Three civilians were killed in southern Saudi Arabia from a missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen. 

(Taiz) Col. Radwan el-Wassabi a pro-government army colonel was murdered and at least four of his guards wounded late Saturday in central Taiz. 

(Al Jawf Governorate) Yemen’s national army, backed by the Arab coalition, reclaimed, Wadi Khib and several other locations following clashes with the Houthis, leaving 15 terrorists dead and wounding several others.

(Marib) Twenty Houthi rebels were killed in clashes with Yemen’s military in central Marib province. Apparently the rebels tried to sneak in and overrun a Yemeni army position, however an artillery barrage soon put paid to that idea.   

(Hodeidah) Fierce clashes south of Yemen’s strategic port city, Hodeidah, as pro-government forces continue their advance against Iranian-backed militia has resulted in 50+ rebels killed.

(Hodeidah)  The war in Yemen will take a decisive step within the new week or so when the Saudi led coalition takes the important port of Hodeidah which whilst supplying around 70% of all aid into the war torn country, is also the major route for weapon supplies from Iran for the Houthi rebels. (Saudi Arabia is keen to capture the port and block supplies of Scud missiles from Iran reaching the rebels, who have launched over 100 into Saudi Arabia)

Ironically this turn in events came about after the rebels assassinated former president Ali Abdullah Saleh who engineered the takeover of the country by the Houthi rebels in which to place himself back in power after he stood down in 2012 after 33 years in power due to public protests.  After promising not to delve in politics, he returned in 2013 and in 2014 he helped (with his supporters)  the Houthi take most of the western half of the country resulting in the president asking Saudi Arabia for help.

However last December Saleh was assassinated, after a large number of his supporters were also killed off, they switched sides and are now fighting for the Saudi coalition against their former allies. Which is why the man in charge of the Saudi led forces which are knocking on the door of Hodeidah is Saleh’s nephew, Brigadier-General Tareq Mohammed Saleh.

From last Wednesday to Saturday 110 troops have died in the fighting between both sides, comprising of 90 rebels and 20 coalition troops.  

Last night (Sunday) it was reported that over 100 rebels have been killed  by advancing Saudi coalition troops this past 24 hours on the outskirts of Hodeidah

(Riyadh) Saudi air defences have intercepted 3 ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels from neighbouring Yemen targeting the capital and the cities of Najran and Jizan at around 1730 hrs Wednesday.

This followed an attempt to attack Abha International Airport at 0730 hrs this morning by the use of an armed Qasef-1drone, it was however picked up on radar and shot down. and ten minutes later another Qasef-1 was picked and that too was shot down.

Yemen: Suicide bombers hit counter-terrorist base, kill 14, injure 40.

(Aden) A suicide attack today highlights the Byzantine nature of the war inside Yemen . The attack by Islamic state on the headquarters of a counter-terrorism unit in the southern port city of Aden on Saturday highlights killing 14 and injuring 40 shows how complicated the situation in the country is. On the side of the rebels we have Iran. They had the forces of the ex president on his side, but when they killed him off the other month, that saw his forces join the otherside. On the side of the official UN recognised Government we have Saudi Arabia and other gulf states. In between we have ISIS and Al qaeda.  Then on top of all that  we have the US which is fighting Al Qaeda.If that wasn't complicated enough the tribes of the south who were fighting the rebels on the side of the Government and Saudi Arabia, decided to make a play for power themselves and have carved themselves their own little caliphate under the remit of the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC)  who captured the port city of Aden and the surrounding area at the end of January 2018.

Which was where the bombings today took place. The first bomb targeted an anti-terrorism military camp with detention facilities for suspected militants, while the other targeted an office for the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) which is also the residence of Aden’s former governor, Aidarous al-Zubaidi,

Islamic State, in a statement carried by its Amaq news agency, claimed responsibility for what it described as two "martyrdom operations"  The attack was the first one of its kind in southern Yemen since the southern separatists took the city from the Hadi government over control of the city. 

Anybody else notice that a Sunni terrorist organisation which a lot of people claim is funded by Saudi Arabian citizens  just happened to hit a town that used to be under the control of SA and its allies in an area that ISIS hasn’t shown its face for a while.

(Yemen) Whilst the world has heard of the Saudi involvement inside Yemen, not many know of the  coalition that is helping Riyadh. One such country is the United Arab Emirates, which owns some of the most advanced military equipment in the world. Its main battle tank is the French made Leclerc, which is reportedly of a higher standard than that used by the French Army. Its combat engineer vehicle is the Engin Principal du Génie, which is based on the Leclerc. They use the South African wheeled G6 howitzer system, and the RG 31 fitted with the 122-mm AGRAB as a mortar base plate. As their battlefield taxis they use the  Patria AMV APC and the BAE Caiman. Unlike the Turks when they went into Syria, the UAE appear to ensure that their vehicles have the protection required to survive a bun fight. But then, with a population of 9 million, the UAE really can't afford to take losses as the Turks have and can. Anyway, here's a wee video of all the above kit in action:

Yemen: Is everything going to change

(Sana'a)  The current war in Yemen has its roots in the Arab spring when protests brought down Yemini dictator President Ali Abdullah Saleh who had ruled the county for 39 years. Initially he had agreed to peacefully step aside and the deputy President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi stood in until elections were held where as the only candidate standing he won the majority vote in feb 2012.

However Saleh, instead of buggering off to live the life of riley with the $60 Billion he had pilfered felt that he was the rightful heir to Yemen and so he sided with the Shia Houthis rebels who supported by the Shia Iranians took over virtually the western half of the country. Alarmed by how Tehran was setting up shop next door to them, Saudi Arabia in 2015 led an invasion of the country in which to kick the mad Mullahs and their cronies out and there is where things stood until this week.

As is the case of Muslims everywhere, you simply cannot trust them, which is why Saleh was killed this week by his Houthis partners in crime, which has been followed up by his forces (troops and tribes loyal to him) been wiped off the map also. At a stroke, the rebels have reduced their numbers. The Saudi supported Hadi government are cashing in, on this split by giving an amnesty to any member of the General People’s Congress party (GPC) who are fleeing the Houthi crackdown. The now-isolated al Houthi movement will seek more support from Tehran, which it will naturally provide. The instability generated by Saleh’s death will reverberate beyond northern Yemen, allowing al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula an opportunity to expand. Expect the map of Yeman to change over the next few months.

Yemen: Another Iranian made Ballistic missile fired into Saudi Arabia.

(Sana'a)  Whilst the liberal world bemoans anybody who even looks in the direction of Saudi Arabia regards its adventure next door in Yemen ( 8,670 people killed since 2015) demanding that they cut all military ties with the state, they remain ever so silent on Iran, which not only instigated the whole thing, but continues to supply the Shia rebels with arms and ammunition.  Which is why last night the Saudis took out another SCUD missile which just happened to be heading their way. All in all over 100 missiles have been launched from Yemen against Saudi Arabia with strong evidence that they were made in...Iran

Yemen:Rebels shoot down a U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper UAV

(Sana) Yemen’s Houthi forces shot down a USAF Reaper UAV on the outskirts of the capital on Sunday. The UAV was apparently hit by a ground to air missile (Most likely supplied by Iran) above  the capital. Whilst the US hasn't admitted to the loss, video has emerged of the stricken craft falling out of the sky.

The irony here is the US has largely kept out of the Saudi/Iran proxy fight in Yemen and has concentrated on Al Qaeda inside the country.  Which as a Suni Muslim terrorist outfit see's no problem in killing Huthi as they are..Shia. The good news for the USAF is now the Government will have to set about protecting their UAVs from Anti-Aircraft missiles, A weakness just waiting to happen.

(Shabwah) 17 Houthi rebels have been killed after Saudi-led coalition war-planes pounded Houthi positions in Shabwah province over the past 24 hours.

(Baddah) A car-bomb and gun attack on an army camp in south-eastern Yemen early on Monday, left at least 10 terrorists and two soldiers dead.

(Nahm) four days of deadly clashes between Yemeni government forces and Houthi rebels east of Sanaa has left dozens killed and many more injured. As I am unable to ascertain an exact figure yet. I will simply use the singular of dozens (12) in which to add to the RDC.
