Somalia: Amnesty International demands that a Somali/Turkish drone strike should be investigated as a war crime

(Mogadishu) On the 18th March 2024, the Somali terrorist group 'Al Shahbab' attacked the Busley military base in the Lower Shabelle of the country, using several Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) aka suicide car bombs to breach through the defences 

and briefly occupy the base until they were beaten back. How the Somalis beat them back was supporting the troops on the ground with air support by the use of Turkish supplied Bayraktar TB2

UAVs using air to ground missiles (MAM-L) in the fighting the Somali government stated it lost 7 men killing 17 terrorists. 

Well Amnesty International has become involved stating that 23 people were killed during the air strikes which included 14 children (in the middle of a attack on a military base?) I quote:

Amnesty International remotely interviewed 12 people, including four victims and eyewitnesses, and four family members of victims. Researchers also reviewed satellite imagery and medical reports, analysed photos of victims and weapons fragments, and geolocated videos from the scene of the attacks and of Turkish drone operations at Mogadishu International Airport.

Based on the photos of the munitions scrap metal, Amnesty International’s weapons investigator was able to confirm that the strike was conducted with MAM-L glide bombs, which are dropped from TB-2 drones. Both are manufactured by Türkiye. Attacks that fail to differentiate between military objectives and civilian objects are indiscriminate and may amount to war crimes.

I be honest , I'm all for NGOs such as Amnesty to hold countries to task, but I do feel that a lot of the projects they take simply embolden terrorist groups to play the victim card in which to further their own cause. Here a terrorist group attacked a military base using several car bombs and managed to get inside killing numerous soldiers , they were beaten back and Amnesty isn't bothered about the terrorist attack which started all of this, nope they are more concerned about the deaths of 23 people 14 children, 9 women whom they were informed just happened to be at the base when this all kicked off. This they came to the conclusion of by interviewing people remotely. Am I the only one to see the problem here?

(Mogadishu)  As if there isn't enough problems in the world, this evening some nutter drove a Car bomb into the Luul Yamani restaurant and no doubt uttered  'Allah ackba':

So far 30 people have been declared dead with a further 30 injured. The only question I have to ask is what did it prove?

Somalia: 5 killed on Suicide bomb attack on Turkish road building crew

(Mogadishu) Five people, including two Turkish nationals, were killed and more than a dozen others injured on Saturday after a suicide bomber carried out an attack on a road construction site in Somalia. The attack took place near the Mogadishu-Afgoya road construction work site, which was funded by the Qatari government and conducted by a Turkish company. Four Turkish nationals have been injured in the attack.  A total of 14 people were injured in the attack.

The company was working on a road between Somali capital Mogadishu and the town of Afgooye. Al Shabaab, affiliated with Al Qaeda, have claimed the attack saying the attack targeted “white officers” on the outskirts of Mogadishu. The official was cited as saying two “apostate soldiers” were also killed in the attack.

(Mogadishu) On Saturday morning some idiot decided to drive a explosives laden vehicle into the front gates a military base in the centre of the Somali capital not far from the national stadium.  

The resulting blast killed 9 and injured another 14, including family members of the soldiers who live on the base.

(Mogadishu) U.S. Africa Command have issued a press statement that they carried out a couple of   airstrikes on Al-Shahbab terrorists based inside Somalia killing 1 terrorist and injuring another 2.

The airstrikes were conducted in the vicinity of Qunyo Barrow.

Somalia: Car bomb kills 4 wounds 15

(Mogadishu)  Four people were killed, including a senior government official, when a car bomb exploded close to a checkpoint near Somalia's parliament in the capital Mogadishu on Wednesday. Apparently the driver of the vehicle was trying to sneak the V-IED past the check point when he was discovered, he decided to utter allah ackba killing the brave soldiers manning the check point. 15 people nearby were also injured

Somalia: Truck bomb kills over 90

(Mogadishu)  This morning just before noon somebody decided to detonate a truck bomb at a busy main junction (Where 5 main roads converge on the map of the Somali capital below outside the local tax office. The ensuring blast killed over 90 people and injured around another 150 As the local university is just down the road from the blast, a large number of those killed and injured were students

As per usual , nobody has decided to own up for this mass murderous incident.

Somalia: Video of VBIED attack on Italian convoy reveals how just how good Modern MRAP vehicles are.

(Mogadishu)  The weapon of choice for Islamic terrorists the world over is the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), aka the Car bomb. In response the West has spent a lot of time, effort and money in designing vehicles designed to survive such attacks known as Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) . The other week an Italian convoy was struck by a VIED and it was caught on video.

The Italians use the Iveco LMV , which has sold well around the world including over 1000 to Russia. As you see from the above video and following pictures, the Russian knew what exactly what they were buying.

Somalia: AN 74 lands without wheels.

(Mogadishu)  An Armenian  Antonov An-74  was caught coming into land at Mogadishu after its undercarriage failed to deploy.

The plane a derivative of the An 72 a Soviet/Ukrainian transport aircraft, developed by Antonov. It was designed as an STOL transport able to operate from rough landing strips, with a total of 195 built. Strangely enough a AN 72 crashed in Sudan  killing 7 people today as well. But thankfully nobody was injured with the belly-landing in Somalia.

Somalia: Al Shahbab terrorists fail in attack on Americans

(Mogadishu)  Yesterday the Somalian terrorist group 'Al Shahbab' tried to score a propaganda coup by trying to take out Wanlawayn Air Strip around  60 miles west of the capital Mogadishu, where US special forces, Somali special forces and Ugandan peacekeepers are based. It is also used as a launch site for US drones, the use of which has become a very painful thorn in the side of Al Shahbad, thus in their eyes a prime target.

The typical plan of action for all attacks in Somalia (and most of the Arab world) is to detonate a car bomb in the midst of the target area and then during the confusion rush in and scream 'Allah ackba' whilst murdering as many people as possible, The problem yesterday was, the US knew the base would be a prime target and were ready and so when the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED),rushed towards the base, it was met with death from above and the attack faulted and failed before it even started.

The follow up operation resulted in a clean sweep of the attacking force with 10 terrorists taken out for no casualties:

Naturally for the leftwing BBC the attack could only be a success for the terrorists and a huge failure for the US.

Somalia: Twin car bombs kills 8 people, injures 25.

(Mogadishu)  Islamic terrorist group Al-Shahbab detonated 2 car bombs in the Somali capital on Saturday. The first  near a checkpoint for the presidential palace, resulted in eight deaths, whilst the discovery of second car bomb at a checkpoint on the road to the airport saw no casualties as people were evacuated from the area in time. on top of the 8 deaths. 25 people were wounded,

(Mogadishu) Islamic Terrorist group Al Shabab detonated a suicide car bomb and killed at least nine people, including Somalia’s former foreign minister, near the presidential palace in the capital on Wednesday, former foreign minister Hussein Elabe Fahiye, who was an advisor to the current president, was among those killed in the blast.another 13 people were wounded and most of the casualties were soldiers. The car bomb exploded at a security checkpoint near the presidential palace as soldiers were conducting security checks on vehicles on the main road.

(Mogadishu) Stung by failing to recapture the town of Bariire last night, Al Shahbab decided to extract their revenge by blowing up a food distribution centre in the Wardhigley district of the capital killing 5 people and injuring 9 others.

Somalia: Car bomb attack on Hotel kills 10

(Mogadishu) It has been reported that  suicide car bomb was detonated outside a Mogadishu hotel on Thursday killed at least 10 people and destroying nearby  buildings in the Somali capital’s busiest street,

Islamic terrorist group Al Shabaab have claimed responsibility for the attack.

 “We targeted and stormed Hotel Maka Al Mukaram. We are still inside it,”

Somalia: US air-strike takes out 35 terrorists

(Mogadishu) U.S. Africa Command have issued a press statement that they carried out an airstrike on Al-Shahbab terrorists based inside Somalia who had massed together prior to an attack killing 35 terrorists.

The strike took place 23 miles east of Beledweyne, close to the border with Ethiopia.

Somalia: Gunmen murder 9 street cleaners

(Lafoole) al-Shabab terrorists  shot dead nine civilians street cleaners in a town just outside the capital on Monday. six women and three men who wear cleaning the road were killed by the terrorists; two  other workers were injured in the attack.

Regional governor Mohamed Ibrahim Barre speaking to t he media explained that the terrorists do not want the people to clean the streets because they use the garbage, trees and undergrowth to disguise their improvised explosive devices.

Somalia: Bomb Attack on Shopping centre kills 11

(Mogadishu)  A car bomb has been detonated in the midst of a shopping centre in the Somali capital today  resulting in the deaths of  11 people and with the wounding of 10 more. The blast occurred in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district, a busy area with shops and restaurants. Strange how those who claim they are fighting invaders in which to justify their religious bigotry and blood-lust end up killing the very people they claim they are fighting for.
