(Oxford) These past few weeks have seen people all over the world reporting sexual indiscretions (including sexual assault and rape) made against powerful and famous people. One such person is Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan who teaches at Oxford. Over
this past week at least several women have come forward in which to claim that he
raped them. Oxford University has allowed Mr Ramadan to take leave in which to
attend to these allegations.
"By mutual agreement, and with immediate effect, Tariq Ramadan, Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies, has taken a leave of absence from the University of Oxford.”
Which is fair and neutral as it should be. However it now transpires that it was a backlash from students angry at how the University continued to allow Ramadan to teach. This issue was further polarised when Eugene
Rogan, the director of the Middle East Centre, went out of his way in which to defend Mr Ramadan, telling students
that the accusations were:
“Just another way for Europeans to gang up against a prominent Muslim intellectual”
Excuse me, the women who have reported Ramadan are all…Muslims. Could you see anybody getting away with defending those accused in Hollywood by saying:
"Just another way for Europeans to gang up against a prominent American ”Why can't liberals accept that Muslims can be just as guilty of rape as Non-Muslims and stop playing the race/religion card in which to excuse this disgusting behaviour.
