France: Charlie Hebdo receives death threats over Tariq Ramadan cartoon

(France) The French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published a front-page caricature on Wednesday depicting the Swiss-born Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan with a “huge” erection, arousing virulent reactions among social media users.




Since 24 October, Tariq Ramadan has been accused by several women of sexual assault and rape . An investigation has opened by the French Police for "  rape , sexual assault , and violence  after two women's complaints were made against Ramadan.

In its latest edition, titled “The Defence of Tariq Ramadan,” the magazine portrays  the Oxford professor with a comically large  erection, below a speech bubble that reads “I am the 6th pillar of Islam,” referring to his exaggerated phallus.
