8 injured as Palestinian opens fire on market in Petah Tikva

(Israel) A Palestinian went on a shooting and stabbing attack Thursday at a marketplace in the Israeli city of Petah Tikva, wounding at least eight people.

The gunman, a 19-year-old from the West Bank, was apprehended by members of the public and arrested by officers. Police are calling this assault a terrorist incident. Emergency crews have said they have treated eight wounded people. Seven were listed as lightly injured; one as moderately injured. Hamas has since praised the attack, calling it "heroic,"  and saying it was a "natural response to Israeli crimes." Israeli media reported that the assailant first opened fire on people in the street, and then on a city transit bus.
