(Damascus) Whilst Syria (with the help of Russia) has turned the tide in its fight for the country as a whole, terrorists groups which held large areas of the country only a few months ago are on the back foot, having lost virtually all their so called caliphate. However a wounded dog is still a very dangerous animal and this was realised this week when ISIS attacks on Syrian and Russian forces saw 76 soldiers killed this past week. ( I reported 30 killed on Tuesday)
The deadliest was on Wednesday, when IS targeted a group of
Syrian and allied Russian fighters near the town of Mayadeen in the eastern
province of Deir Ezzor where 35 pro-government forces killed, including at
least nine Russians.
And a pair of IS assaults between Saturday night and Sunday
morning killed at least 11 pro-regime forces in Deir Ezzor.
Ramadan death toll stands at 451
