(China) China purchased the unfinished ex-Soviet Navy aircraftcarrier Varyag from Ukraine ,after some extensive refurbishments at the Dalian
Shipyard in northern China, the vessel was commissioned by the PLA Navy in
September 2012 and renamed Liaoning, (After the northeastern province.)
The
primary role of the vessel is to serve as a training platform for the PLA Navy
to gain experience in operating from a modern aircraft carrier, and to develop
and perfect the relevant technologies that will be used for the design and
construction of China’s indigenous carriers.
Anyway the nice people at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, a think
tank in Washington, D.C., has posted online a new assessment of China’s
aircraft carrier, including a 3-D interactive graphic of the Liaoning warship. So rather than mess you about here, have a play: (It looks really good full screen)
