Ramadan Death Count: Syria, 11/06/17

(Al Bab) Turkish-backed forces fought each other on Sunday in the Syrian town of al Bab in the first bout of rebel fighting since they seized the town this year from ISIS. The heavy clashes left several dead and scores injured.

(Al Tanaf) Jordanian border guards have killed five people as they approached the country’s border from war-torn Syria. An army statement said that in an incident in the previous 72 hours, nine cars had first approached the border from Al Tanaf, a Syrian town where US special forces are training Syrian rebels to fight militants. The cars were forced to turn back but a short while later a pick-up truck and two motorcycles returned in the direction of the Jordanian border, The guards opened fire, killing five people and destroying their vehicles.

(Al Tanaf) A senior official of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group has been killed along with several other jihadists in an attack by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Raqqa city. Abu Khattab al-Tunsi, a Tunisian jihadist and chief of ISIS’ military operations in eastern Raqqa, was killed by the SDF fire. A spokesman for the SDF confirmed Sunday:
“At least 12 members of ISIS were killed during clashes with the SDF in the eastern part of Raqqa. Among the casualties was Abu Khattab al-Tunsi,” 
(Raqqa) the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday liberated another neighbourhood in Syria’s northeastern city of Raqqa after clashes with ISIS militants. The Kurdish-led SDF took control of the al-Romaniya neighbourhood killing at least 15 ISIS thugs in the process.

(Douma city) A brigadier general in the ranks of the Syrian Army was killed during clashes against Jaysh Usud al-Sharqiyyah and the forces of Ahmed al-Abdu in Douma city.

(Deir Ezzor city) Shelling by ISIS on the besieged city of Deir Ezzor, saw 3 people killed.

(Raqqa) ISIS mounted a short term counter-attack that saw them briefly retake the Division 17 Army Base and nearby Sugar Factory to the north of the city which had been lost earlier this week by them to the SDF. (Kurds). 23 Kurds were killed, with another 2 taken prisoner.
