Ramadan Death Count Round Up (Africa) (July 27, 2014)

(Tunisia) Two Tunisian soldiers have been killed and six injured in a gunfight near the border with Algeria, the second such attack in less than two weeks.

(Egypt) Egyptian troops have killed 14 jihadists in shoot-outs in the restive Sinai Peninsula. Also, 4 children were killed Saturday when a terrorist mortar bomb hit their home. This was aimed at soldiers searching the area after 2 police officers had been shot dead on Saturday.

(Kenya) Police on Friday shot dead three men suspected of involvement in a series of attacks that have recently hit Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city, a local official has said.

(Libya) 59 people have been killed in Libya as the battle between Islamists and the government militia heats up. 36 people were killed in Libya’s eastern city of Benghazi, many of them civilians, in clashes between Libyan Special Forces and Islamist militants on Saturday night.

Another 23 people, all Egyptian workers, were killed in the capital Tripoli when a rocket hit their home on Saturday during clashes between rival militias battling over the city’s main airport, the Egyptian state news agency reported.

(Nigeria) 30 people were killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist group in the Hong Local government Area in Adamawa state.
