(Manila) 59 year old Ewold Horn a Dutch birdwatcher who was taken hostage
by the Islamist terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in 2012 was killed by his capture’s
yesterday when he tried to escape during a firefight between the terrorist group
and the Pilipino army on the Island of
Sulu.
Horn was kidnapped along with a Swiss man and a local guide in 2012 during a birdwatching trip to Sulu. The guide escaped while being transported to Jolo and the Swiss man escaped in 2014. Horn was the longest-held captive of Abu Sayyaf, a terrorist group which regularly engages in kidnapping of foreigners and Filipinos.
