(Normandy) 2 knife wielding followers of Allah decided to enter the church in the small French town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray and take 5 people (including a priest and two nuns) hostage during a morning mass. Thankfully, a sixth managed to escape and inform the police. On the arrival of the police a hostage situation developed which lasted for just one hour.
The police moved in after the hostage takers emerged on to the courtyard of the church and slit the throat of the 84-year-old Father Jacques Hamel which then saw both terrorists taken out, but not before another hostage was seriously injured.

French soldiers are already protecting Jewish institutions from Islamists; now they will have to expand to Catholic institutions as well.
