Socialist Venezuela hits on solution to combat food shortages

(Caracas) There's a hell of a lot of people who think that socialism (read that as communism) holds all the answers to the world's ills. However, unlike the motto of the three musketeers ("All for one, one for all"), you really have to be a Dumas to subscribe to that adage.

There isn't one example of a socialist society which has worked. If anything, socialist societies usually end up exemplifying the worse attributes of totalitarian societies.

Which brings me to the wonder socialist experiment which is Venezuela. Since December 1998, it has been under the thralls of socialism for the majority of that time under the guidance of Hugo Chávez who decided to leave this plane of existence in March 2013. His position of leader was taken up by Nicolás Maduro.

In continuing to promote the failed policies of Hugo, Nicolás has squandered the enormous oil wealth of Venezuela by quite literally giving it away to others. This has resulted in acute shortages in everything from water to food to electricity to petrol. In a country as rich as Venezuela in natural resources, this is a disgrace. Yet the socialist policies inaugurated by Hugo Chávez continue to disadvantage every man, woman and child of the country in which to send the message that all men are treated equal.

Well, faced with shocking food shortages in a country where nobody should lack for anything (including toilet paper), El Presidente has come up with the fool proof way in which to ensure nobody gets more than he/she is entailed to. Fingerprint every shopper. Yes, the political elite's way in which to ensure than everybody gets what they are entitled to is to fingerprint every shopper.

Can you imagine the outrage from the left if anybody tried that in the West? Funny how they remain silent when the object of their desire does just that, using the polices they advocate.

Any socialists who visit this board want to comment on this?
