(JPost) A Palestinian man attacked two Shin Bet officers on Monday with an axe before being shot dead, police said.
According to initial details provided by police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, the attack followed a collision involving an army jeep and a Palestinian vehicle on Route 57, between Shavei Shomron and Einav in the northern West Bank. The Shin Bet was carrying out security activity along the road when the Palestinian vehicle swerved from its lane and crashed head-on into them.
The Palestinian driver then lunged at the security personnel with an axe while shouting "Allahu Akbar." He injured two Israelis in the attack. A Shin Bet officer shot and killed the attacker.
An initial investigation has found that the Palestinian is a resident of the Tul Karem area. Security forces say the incident was a terrorist attack.
"Large numbers of police and army are at the scene to investigate," Rosenfeld added.
