(Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) How many articles have you read about how Ramadan is a time of reflection, understanding and, of course, self control? Usually, such words are aimed at westerners in which to afford Muslims more rights in non-Islamic countries. You know, like how in the UK the NHS banned people from eating in front of Muslims, how Muslims are encouraged to stop smoking during Ramadan (which is strange, as smoking is actually forbidden under Islamic law).
Well, after banning nearly everything, Muslims in Pakistan have come up with a new one. They have banned women from going out shopping on their own. Yup, in order to secure the sanctity of Ramadan, females now have to be escorted by a male member of the family or risk getting arrested.
And people keep on telling me Islam affords equality to women.
Really?
