Burkina Faso: Terrorist attack on restaurant, 20 people murdered

(Ouagadougou) Islamists in the African country of Burkina Faso carried out an attack on a restaurant last night, murdering 20 people and injuring many more. The attack targeted a Turkish restaurant popular with foreigners which is just 200 metres from a hotel and cafe targeted in a terrorist atatck in January 2016 that left 30 people dead and 71 wounded, many of them foreigners. That attack was claimed by the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) group.


The attack kicked off when at least two gunmen arrived on a motorcycle around 9pm armed with Kalashnikovs, and after shooting up the place, barricaded themselves inside. Security forces launched a counter-assault at around 10:15, with the incident brought to an end at around 5am Monday. 2 terrorists have been reported killed.
