Forces aligned with Libya's unity government said on Friday
they had taken control of the port of Sirte, making further gains in Islamic
State's North African stronghold. Clashes in Sirte on Friday left 11 brigade
members dead and 35 wounded.
Pro-Libyan government forces fighting to dislodge Islamic State from its key bastion of Sirte have found bodies of militants, handcuffed and shot in the head, inside army barracks in the city. Libyan media official Ahmed Hadiya said at least six bodies were found in the al-Saadi barracks after the facility was overrun by forces allied to the UN-brokered government. He said he believes the bodies are of IS "militants who wanted to flee".
Several bodies of former Qaddafi regime soldiers have
reportedly been found today in Tripoli. It is claimed they were summarily
executed. The bodies are said to have been discovered in different areas around
the capital – six in Wadi Rabie, east of Tripoli International Airport, and
others in Hadba and Falah. The latest reports, none of which have been verified
so far, speak of 17 bodies now found.
