Iraqi security forces repelled Islamic State (IS) militant
attacks against military posts in villages south of the IS-held city of Mosul,.
Dozens of ISIS thugss, including suicide bombers and cars
laden with bombs, attacked Iraqi army posts Tuesday in a cluster of villages
near the militant-seized town of Qayyara, 50 km south of Mosul. However,
security forces and allied paramilitary Sunni tribal units repelled the IS
attacks,
"Our troops, backed by the US-led coalition aircraft and heavy artillery shelling, battled the terrorists' attack following several hours of fierce clashes," said Brigadier General Firas Sabri, spokesperson of Liberation of Nineveh Operations Command.
The clashes resumed at dawn on Wednesday when the IS
attacked military posts near the village of al-Naser in northeast Qayyara, with
troops once more repelling the attacks, Sabri added.The clashes resulted in the
death of at least 45 IS militants, including three suicide bombers, the
destruction of two cars laden with bombs as well as three IS vehicles carrying
heavy machine guns, Sabri said, adding that five soldiers were also wounded
during the clashes.
Turkish warplanes conducted an air operation in the Kandil
region in northern Iraq on June 5 upon received intelligence. In addition,
Turkish warplanes hit PKK targets in Kandil and a rural area of the Lice
district in the south eastern province of Diyarbakır on June 7.Turkish
warplanes hit nine PKK targets, including shelters and sanctuaries, in the
Kandil region in northern Iraq on June 7 between 11:59 p.m. and 12:20 a.m.,
according to security sources. At least 22 PKK militants were killed in the
operation
The Joint Operations Command announced on Wednesday that the
international coalition aviation carried out 29 aerial strikes against ISIS in
Iraq, which resulted in the killing of ten ISIS members.
Three members of al-Hashed al-Asha’ari were killed while
three others were seriously injured in a bomb blast that rocked Hanbas village
to the northeast of Baqubah on Wednesday. An explosive, which was emplaced in the orchards of Hanbas
village (45 km northeast of Baqubah), went off while a patrolling team of the
al-Hashed al-Sha’bi was carrying out cleansing operations. The blast triggered
wide spread chaos and three members of the patrolling party were killed while
three others were seriously injured.”
On Wednesday, a Kirkuk police source revealed that a member
of al-Hashd al-Shaabi was killed while he was trying to dismantle an improvised
explosive device in southern Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad).
The commander of Anbar Operations Command, Maj. Gen. Ismail
al-Mahalawi, announced on Tuesday the killing 4 ISIS members and wounding
another 6 during an artillery shelling north of the city of Ramadi.
