US increases airstrikes against ISIS

(Iraq) The US continued in its mission to combat, attack and degrade the military capabilities of ISIS by expanding its areas of operation inside Iraq by targeting terrorist assets in the far west of the country close to the Syrian border.

To that end and at the request of the Iraqi government, the US launched four airstrikes on Sunday on insurgents threatening to take over the Haditha Dam in western Iraq. The strikes destroyed five ISIS Humvees, one armed vehicle, a checkpoint, and also damaged an ISIS bunker.

Due to this supporting mission, Iraqi forces remain in control of the dam, a major source of water and electrical power for the country.
