IDF invoked "Hannibal Directive" in which to prevent Hamas kidnapping soldier

(Israel) Last Friday, during a so called truce, Hamas used a tunnel to sneak into Israel, kill 2 soldiers and kidnap, 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin.

What happened next shows how Israel will never allow one of its own to be held to ransom by Hamas.

The IDF invoked "Hannibal Directive," which allows commanders to call in extra troops and air support to use maximum force to recapture a lost soldier. Its most ominous clause states that the mission is to prevent the captors from getting away with their captives, even at the risk of harming or endangering the lives of the captured Israeli soldiers. And so, as the media reported, the IDF unleashed a barrage of artillery and airstrikes on a heavily populated section of the southern border town of Rafah. While the world's media wailed at the indiscriminate carnage inflicted on Gaza, the real reason was to wipe out the Islamic terrorists behind this kidnapping and to ensure that they paid a price which even they thought was too much.

Maybe that explains why Hamas media wing (the bBC) reported that they did not kidnap 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin, because even they realised they had opened the gates of hell with this one.
