Malawi: UN expert demands that Christian schools overturn their Hijab ban,

(Mangochi) The other day I mentioned how Muslims living in Malawi (which is 87% Christian) decided to demolish  the local church after 2 girls (Children of noted radical Muslims) who attended the local Christian school decided to flaunt the school rules on dress and turned  up wearing the hijab. The school sent them home and in return the Muslims rioted demolished the church, the home of a priest,  kicked a teacher out of his home and forced the schools to be closed.

Well it appears that Ms. Maria Jose Torres, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malawi isn't happy how a christian school which has a dress code acted when the daughters of 2 Islamic agitators were sent home for taking no notice of the school dress code and has demanded that the country sets aside Christian school dress codes for Muslims.

Funny how I've never heard the UN demand that Islamic schools do likewise regards not covering up for allah when it comes to Non-Muslims.

Lebanon: UN Envoy moans that Hezb-allah won't let them inspect those tunnels they dug

(Beirut) For years Israel has complained that the UN buffer forces between Israel and Lebanon are just as effective as a chocolate fire-guard. Well not really, whilst happy to bemoan the Jews for anything the Lebanese find fault with:

1) Building a border fence inside Israel

2) There are no tunnels between the two countries 

3) Israel may be planning to attack Lebanon

4) Israel has removed barbed wire from its own area.

5) For cutting down trees inside...Israel 

It has failed to do its job inside Lebanon in keeping Hezballah away from the border. Well today 

Nikolay Mladenov The United Nations' Mideast envoy says peacekeepers in Lebanon have not been given access to tunnels stretching into Israel. Get that the UN itself admits it has failed to do the job it is meant to do and then the political elites complain about how the US and Israel have cut funding to the polarised and biased UN.

UN: French niqab ban violates human rights

(UN)  Well the liberal world had a right hissy fit when the US pulled out of the UN Human rights commission (UNHCR) the other month. Saying it was doing so as it was a "hypocritical" body that "makes a mockery of human rights".

Well guess what the UNHCR have only gone and done it again. Yesterday they found in favour of 2 Islamic women who complained in 2016 regards a 2010 French ban on the full body (niqab) covering and the UN has found in their favour. stating that the french state has not demonstrated how the full veil presents a threat in itself for public security to justify this absolute ban, adding that the French Government had not adequately explained why hiding one’s face is forbidden for religious reasons, while it is authorized in other contexts such as sports, or artistic settings. They concluded by saying that the ban, rather than protecting fully veiled women, could have the effect of confining them to their homes, impeding their access to public services and marginalizing them.

The UN has given the French 180 days to demonstrate it has taken the UN findings on board and compensate the two women who brought the complaints.

Meanwhile the very same UNHCR remains silent on Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan , and a large number of Islamic enclaves around the world, where not covering up for Allah, can not only get you arrested, but can result in your death.

UN: Under-fire for appointing despotic regimes to UN Human Rights Council.

and the selection of a number of those states hasn't gone down well with a lot of people:
For example we have the Philippines where President Rodrigo Duterte's crackdown on drugs has resulted in  "a killing frenzy" that between July 2016 and Oct 2018 has seen over 7000 people murdered . Political opponents of Duterte have a nasty habit of getting arrested 

Then, there is Eritrea which has no problem persecuting and jailing government critics and  due to its no time limit national service. (really just a front for cheap labour)  has resulted in around 4000 Eritreans leaving in search of asylum every month. In fact so concerned was the UNHRC about the conditions in Eritrea, it commissioned a report on Human right abuses in 2015, the findings of which were quite damning of the country. (PDF here)

Syria: Turks finally take Afrin after 2 months of hard slog.

(Syria) The Turkish army has after 2 months of its so called Operation Olive Branch finally ethically cleansed the Kurds from an area of Syria they have lived in for thousands of years. Despite only advancing 15 kilometres , that task  took them over 2 months of hard slog. Funny enough almost 100 years ago, the Turks were doing likewise with the Armenians and then as in now the world has remained silent on yet another genocide carried out in the name of Allah, which this time has been carried out on..Muslims.

Suspected Russian warplanes kill scores in Syrian city

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Air strikes believed to have been carried out by Russian warplanes killed scores of people in the center of the rebel-held city of Idlib in northwest Syria on Sunday, rescue workers and residents said.

They said at least six strikes had hit a busy market place in the heart of the city, several government buildings and residential areas. Rescue workers said they had confirmed 43 dead but that at least 30 more bodies had been retrieved that had still to be identified. Over 150 people were wounded with some of the serious cases sent to hospitals in Turkey.

"There are a lot of corpses under the rubble," Yasser Hammo, a civil defense worker, said via an Internet messaging system, adding that volunteers and civil defense workers were still pulling bodies out.

UN Official Mourns Palestinian 'Shaheeds' on Facebook

(Clarion Project) A U.N. official who was badly injured in a rock-throwing attack by Palestinian terrorists has refused to condemn the attack, instead wondering what is the benefit of throwing rocks at cars at night time.

Head of the U.N. Bureau of the International Labor Organization in the Palestinian Territories Mounir Kleibo is reported highly supportive of the Palestinians on his Facebook page, despite being a senior U.N. official.

On his Facebook profile picture he had written “We mourn not only our shahids but also ourselves, our eyes, our hearts, our consciousness and our humanity.”

Islamists believe that those who die in perpetrating terrorist attacks attain the status of martyrdom and will go to paradise.

His cover photo was a picture of the Dome of the Rock, posted alongside a poem about Jerusalem.

Both the cover photo and the profile picture have since been changed.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson told Hebrew media outlet NRG it was “regrettable that the U.N. did not explicitly condemn all Palestinian stone throwers, who hurt, among others, a senior U.N. official. One can be even sorrier that the same official, a victim of Palestinian violence, continues praising it on his Facebook page.”

Islamist rhetoric has pervaded the recent outbreak of Palestinian terrorism in Israel, fueled by false rumors that Israel intends to change the status quo on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount under which non-Muslims are forbidden from praying, but may visit at set times.

Islamists believe in a supremacist doctrine which holds only Muslims can be allowed to access and pray at the site, despite the fact that it also holy to Jews and Christians.

Netanyahu's Powerful Moment of 'Deafening Silence' At U.N.

(Truth Revolt) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke passionately before the United Nations on Thursday afternoon, attacking the Iran nuclear deal and the general support for it in the international body. At one point, Netanyahu spoke of the "utter silence" in the U.N. over Iran's commitment to the destruction of Israel:

"Seventy years after the murder of 6 million Jews, Iran’s leaders promise to destroy my country, murder my people and the response from this body, the response from nearly every one of the governments represented here, has been absolutely nothing. Utter silence. Deafening silence."

His words were followed by literal silence as he stared into the assembly without speaking for a full 45 seconds. The dramatic moment and the import of his words left to weigh on the consciences of the gathered, and of those at home.

Perhaps, one hopes, even at the White House, assuming any conscience there remains.

UN charges Israel with war crimes — is the US next?

(NYP) Washington must stop the United Nations’ attempt to criminalize Israel’s war on terror not only because it’s the right thing to do — but because America’s military may well be next in its crosshairs.

I'm sure Obama is OK with Americans being charged with war crimes for defending their country. He'd only be upset if Bowe Bergdahl was one of them.

On Monday, the UN’s Human Rights Council issued a lengthy report on last summer’s war in Gaza. Written by a team led by retired New York Supreme Court judge Mary McGowan Davis, it’s bedtime reading in the Hague, the seat of the International Criminal Court.

The reality of the report is that it is, unlike past such reports, a road map for the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor to indict Jerusalem officials and the brass of the Israel Defense Forces, now that the Palestinian Authority has joined the ICC.

And sure enough, a Palestinian official filed an official ICC complaint against Israel Thursday, based on some of the rights council’s findings.

Hamas is euphemized as “armed Palestinian groups.” But the report’s authors specifically accuse “decision-makers at the highest levels of the Government of Israel” of possible responsibility for war crimes. And not just Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; midlevel IDF officers are also mentioned by name.

The report all too conveniently concludes that Israel’s judicial system isn’t adequate, so off to the Hague we go.

And here’s the view from The Hague. In 2009, the ICC indicted a true war criminal, Sudanese tyrant Omar al-Bashir, but is yet to bring him to justice.

In the latest twist, South Africa, an early enthusiastic supporter of the ICC, hosted Bashir last week. Pretoria then allowed him to quietly fly back home, defying a local court order — not to mention the ICC’s request that all its members do their utmost to arrest Bashir and transfer him to The Hague.

Why? Pretoria listens to African leaders who complain that since the ICC’s establishment in 1998, it’s only prosecuted Africans. Bring us a case against some non-African they say, or we’re outta here.

That’s a political conundrum for the ICC, which can quickly lose its image as a world judiciary body: It’s membership is already thin, as Russia, China, India and (most importantly) America decline membership.

If Africans quit now too, who’d take the ICC seriously? To the rescue, here comes the UNHRC.

Until two years ago, the ICC couldn’t touch the IDF, because Israel isn’t a member. But now “Palestine” was admitted as a member so, voila, any crime committed in the territory of that “state” — including Gaza — is fair game.

But wait, did the IDF actually commit war crimes by neglecting to protect innocents, as the McGowan Davis report argues? Military professionals beg to differ.

In Gaza “Israel went to extraordinary lengths to limit collateral damage and civilian casualties,” the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, said last November.

This month, a group of European, American and other former military commanders investigated the war and insisted they’d never heard of “any army that takes such extensive measures as did the IDF last summer to protect the lives of the civilian population.”

Such testimony indicates that Israel’s asymmetric war against terrorism differs little from NATO’s or other armies’. And guess what: there’s already a small pile on ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda’s desk filled with complaints of alleged US crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq. What if she or her successor decide to go after those cases?

Any American commander in chief must consider such a possibility. Yes, the Geneva Conventions and other half-century-old treaties governing war must be updated to fit the current battlefield, where terrorists revel in killing enemy and allied civilians alike.

But more importantly, President Obama must consider disavowing and defunding biased, purely political bodies like the Human Rights Council, and warn UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that other UN bodies are next. America shouldn’t get anywhere near the ICC either, at least not until it conclusively proves that law, rather than global politics, guides its decisions.

It won’t happen, of course, so the next president must weigh those options. Otherwise, he or she risks being indicted by one global kangaroo court or another.

Someone should pull the plug on UNRWA

(JPost) Israel is accused of shooting at United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) facilities in the Gaza Strip without making sufficient effort to avoid hurting innocent civilians encamped there. The Schabas-McGowan Davis report to be released on the 23rd of this month and soon to be leaked, will concentrate on proving these charges, while accusing the IDF of many more violations of international law.

Already, a strong report issued by NGO Monitor explores some of the many war crimes perpetrated by Hamas, which caused most of the civilian deaths in Gaza. Another report, issued by UN Watch, establishes and details the high moral standards governing IDF conduct in Gaza, which in many instances were far more exacting than international law requires.

The IDF has just issued another report, which is extremely well documented and reliably authenticated.

It demonstrates the utter falsehood of the biased charges.

The charges surrounding the shooting of UNRWA facilities mostly relate to the return of fire against attackers, and in one instance, a likely failed Hamas rocket which exploded in an UNRWA school yard.

UNRWA, for its part, has admitted that on three separate occasions its schools stored ammunition and rockets, claiming that this violated its policy of neutrality. It “corrected” the unfortunate violations by returning the ammunition to “local authorities.”

There can be little doubt about what these “local authorities” did with the ammunition and rockets given to them by UNRWA.

But it is interesting to ask who and what is this UNRWA which plays such a central role in the life of Gaza and of the terrorist organization Hamas. A comprehensive study on UNRWA has just been published by the Institute for Zionist Strategies.

UNRWA was created in 1948 to help the Palestinian refugees. After the end of WWII, there were millions of refugees and the UN had established an agency to help them. But because of the power of the Arab delegation, the UN set up a special agency to help Palestinian refugees. With malice aforethought, no definition of “refugee” was included in the founding enactment, so that UNRWA was able to establish its own criteria. While all over the world refugee status is personal and applies to those who fled or were evicted, UNRWA extends the definition to the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to all those who follow. Thus the approximately 650,000-800,000 genuine Palestinian refugees, many if not most of whom have died, are currently counted by UNRWA to number around 5.5 million.

In addition, while the major UN refugee agency, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), considers it most humane and effective to resettle refugees in the land of their current residence and not seek to uproot them again nor to impose turmoil and resistance in their former countries of residence where new, ethnic-based nation states have been created, UNRWA accepted the Arab League’s dictates to define its goal as the return of all refugees and their progeny to their original place of residence – no matter how much time has elapsed and no matter what has taken place there in the interim.

While UNHCR considers itself a facilitator to help direct the funds given by members of the UN to host countries which are to provide the services and thus facilitate integration, UNRWA did the opposite. It quickly established a huge bureaucracy which takes the contributed funds and then operates its own programs of education, welfare, health, culture, legal representation and many others. UNRWA is a major government agency within Hamas-controlled Gaza. It may not be called a government, but it is precisely that.

It operates schools, medical facilities, cultural centers and activities, and provides welfare payments and services.

UNRWA employs over 26,000 workers, including 200 highly paid executives.

Can anyone doubt that it is in bed with Hamas? As far back as 2004, all of its governing council members were Hamas activists, and 23 of the 27 UNRWA labor union representatives were from Hamas.

Who, besides UNRWA, could so beneficently employ the rank-andfile minions who build, staff and administer the vast Hamas military infrastructure? In fact, an August 2014 FBI report found that many tens – perhaps hundreds – of UNRWA employees directly commit acts of terrorism.

Compared to the UNHCR, UNRWA spends four times more per capita for administration and has 30 times more employees per refugee. In total, it spends about $1.2 billion for the 5.5 million “refugees” it helps compared to the $2.3b. spent by the UNHCR for the 40 million refugees which it aids.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that the sooner a refugee integrates into society, the faster he becomes well adjusted and productive.

The UNHCR seeks to do just this. It believes that its connection with the refugee must be short-lived and not symbiotic. It seeks to integrate the client into the place of his current residence. It will therefore not employ the “client” refugee nor encourage him to focus on the past.

It helps the refugee based on current emotional and physical needs, not past grievances. It seeks to help the client move ahead and advance rather than wallow in what could or might have been.

UNRWA, of course, does just the opposite. It creates an identity of interest with the clients. It employs them as much as possible. Its schools emphasize and romanticize their past and the hardship their families suffered. They (and their progeny until eternity) are defined as permanent refugees. They are kept apart from the local population and the agency’s policies contribute mightily to local antipathy and bitterness.

UNRWA seeks to preserve and nurture the problem, not resolve it.

The IDF is falsely accused of recklessly harming civilians seeking refuge at UNRWA facilities. Though the biased Schabas-McGowan Davis report soon to be visited upon us will again regurgitate these conclusions, they have already been largely disproven.

UNRWA was originally created for a period of a little over a year, but its right to life has been renewed 65 times. Enough. UNRWA should be allowed to expire. Mankind would benefit greatly, including especially its Palestinian clients, whose lives it has ruined for generations.

Israel announces it won’t cooperate with UN Gaza probe

And why should they? The report has been finished for months. Israel is guilty of everything and "Palestinians" are just peace loving noble savages struggling for equality...

(Times of Israel) The Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday it would not cooperate with the UN inquiry into the summer Gaza conflict, and rejected an entry request issued by three members of the investigative committee seeking to gather evidence, leaving them stranded in Amman.

The decision not to cooperate with the probe was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman.

The UN team has been in Jordan for several days, awaiting Israeli permission to cross the border, Channel 2 reported. It said the members were using the time in Jordan to interview “witnesses” there.

The Foreign Ministry said the decision came about because of the UN Human Rights Council’s “obsessive hostility” toward Israel and “one-sided mandate.” It also cited anti-Israel statements made by inquiry head William Schabas as a factor in the move.

“While Hamas fired thousands of rockets toward Israel, the UN Human Rights Council decided it would determine in advance Israel’s ‘guilt’ and set up an investigative committee to serve as a rubber stamp to its known positions,” a ministry statement said.

“Since the Schabas commission is not an inquiry but a commission that gives its conclusions in advance, Israel will not cooperate with the UN Commission on Human Rights over the last conflict with Hamas,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said in a statement.

The UN's terrorism apologists: The world body places the blame almost everywhere but at the criminal culprits themselves

(NYDN) While we are looking for terrorists sneaking across borders, lurking in mosques and holed up in caves, pro-terrorist ideology is spreading across America and around the globe — disseminated in plain sight from the United Nations, in the heart of New York City.

Over the past week, the UN’s top legal committee — a General Assembly body where all 193 states are represented — met to discuss terrorism. The webcasts are broadcast globally in multiple languages. The documents are translated and disseminated on a mammoth website free of charge.

It’s a two-step charade. First, since the UN has no definition of terrorism, state sponsors of terrorism happily denounce “terrorism” at the very same time as they promote it. Second, the terrorist funders and weapons suppliers redirect the world’s attention to the supposed “root causes” of terrorism.

Conveniently, the catalog of root causes of terrorism dreamed up in these circles never includes religiously driven bigotry doled out by anti-Semites and misogynist, homophobic sociopaths — whose need to torture, rape and kill requires no deep explanation.

A quick moral inversion, and the terrorist becomes the victim.

The UN was full of such dangerous canards last week.

On Oct. 7, at the legal committee meeting at UN headquarters, Hezbollah-controlled Lebanon listed “root causes that may lead to radicalism such as . . . poverty, social exclusion and marginalization” along with “Islamophobia.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani played the same card in an address to the General Assembly in September when he whined about “Iranophobia.”

Iran is the leading state sponsor of terrorism. And to the organization’s great shame, Iran is also the president of the so-called “Non-Aligned Movement” — a group of nations routinely aligned against the West. As such, Iran speaks for 120 UN member states — a majority of the 193 UN countries.

Here’s the Iranian speech to the UN legal beagles that was webcast Oct. 7: “Terrorism should not be equated with the legitimate struggle of peoples under colonial or alien domination and foreign occupation for self-determination and national liberation."

Here’s state sponsor of terrorism North Korea on the same day: “Domination and interference, poverty and social inequality, and racial or religious discrimination constitute the root cause of terrorism. International efforts to put an end to terrorism should be preceded by removing the root cause of terrorism.”

All 56 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have signed on to the Islamic Convention on Combating International Terrorism, which gives a green light to killing Israelis, Americans and anybody else deemed fair game. The treaty says: “Peoples’ struggle, including armed struggle against foreign occupation, aggression, colonialism and hegemony, aimed at liberation and self-determination . . . shall not be considered a terrorist crime.”

Speaking on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Oct. 7, Egypt reiterated this pro-terror exemption clause. Over the course of Oct. 7 and 8, the UN trumpeted support for the Iranian and Organization of Islamic Cooperation call to arms from half of all the speakers.

Compounding the efficacy of this outrage, unfortunately, is the Obama administration. With great fanfare, on Sept. 24,, President Obama chaired a Security Council meeting that unanimously adopted a resolution on foreign terrorist fighters.

But the only reason everybody could agree that “terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security” was because terrorism was left undefined.

Moreover, the Security Council didn’t just denounce terrorism. It demanded we “address the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism.” Next it insisted we “counter the violent, extremist narrative that can incite terrorist acts.” And then it ordered us to “address the conditions conducive to the spread of violent extremism.”

In other words, Obama sold us an infinite regression. Because at the UN, the buck never stops with radical Islamists or the governments that support them.

Fun fact: More than 95% of today's UNRWA "refugees" were not even born when Israel was created in 1948

(Gatestone Institute) Here is a paradox: UNRWA, the United Nations agency that manages the Palestinian refugee issue, follows rules that contradict United States law and policy, and its practices result in perpetuating and multiplying the refugee problem rather than resolving it. Yet the U.S. Department of State gives unquestioning support to UNRWA's refugee designation rules[1], even on occasion defending them in detail. How can this be?

For example, almost two million Palestinians who have long been settled in Jordan and have for decades enjoyed Jordanian citizenship[2], are routinely counted as "refugees" by UNRWA, and the State Department supports it. This, in spite of the fact that, under U.S. law, a person who has citizenship in the country where he resides, and enjoys the protection of that state, cannot lawfully be eligible for refugee status.[3] How can State justify this contradiction?

Here is a second example: Another two million Palestinians already settled in the West Bank and Gaza, and who, by their own account, lived in the declared Palestinian state as its citizens under a Palestinian government, are registered as "refugees" by UNRWA.[4] By American legal standards, these Palestinians are "firmly settled" and therefore ineligible for "refugee" status[5]. Further, according to American policy reaffirmed by three Presidents, these Palestinians already reside in their own future state, the place where Palestinian refugees are meant to be settled.[6] Yet the State Department supports UNRWA's decision to count two million Palestinians well established in the West Bank and Gaza as "refugees," too.

Here is a third example: Under U.S. laws and regulations, only an individual who was personally displaced, or is a spouse or an underage dependent of such an individual, can be eligible for refugee status or derivative refugee status.[7]

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are specifically not entitled to inherit refugee status merely because their ancestor was a refugee.[8] But under UNRWA practices, any descendant of a male refugee, no matter how many generations and decades have passed, is automatically entitled to be counted as a "refugee."[9] More than 95% of today's UNRWA "refugees," in fact, were not even alive when Israel was born in 1948; were never personally displaced by Israel's creation, and are listed by UNRWA as "refugees" only because of this peculiar practice of inheriting refugee status as a birthright .

Amazingly, the State Department defends all this, sometimes with great specificity. In response to critics of the descendancy principle, for example, the State Department recently reported, with approval, that UNRWA is not the only UN agency following this inheritance rule; the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) occasionally does, as well.

The UN’s refugee welfare racket

(FP) In the West, it’s known as welfare fraud. In the Palestinian Territories, it’s called refugee relief. In both places, the fraud can become a way of life, seen as an entitlement that children and then grandchildren adopt. Only in the Palestinian Territories, though, does the welfare agency see its goal as putting more people on welfare and keeping them there, the better to keep “the Palestinian refugee crisis” alive.

That welfare agency is called the United Nations Relief and Aid Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA as it’s commonly known. UNRWA doesn’t focus its efforts on resettling Palestinian refugees in foreign countries that would welcome them, as might be expected of a refugee agency, or even on resettling them in their own homeland when possible.

UNRWA doesn’t even limit its efforts to what most people, and all dictionaries, would consider “refugees” — in UNRWA’s books, a refugee can be just about anyone who wants to be one. As a result, the number of Palestinian “refugees,” rather than diminishing to nothing, has grown like topsy over the decades.

UNRWA didn’t always have a create-new-refugees mission. Founded in 1949 as a temporary organization to alleviate the plight of Palestinian refugees fleeing Israel, its laudable goal included emergency relief and “the economic integration of the refugees in host countries.” By funding nearby development projects that would employ the refugees, UNRWA intended to “make them self-sufficient to a point where their names could be deleted from the relief rolls.” UNWRA initially even culled its lists of fraudulent applications, thought to number in the tens of thousands, by people using false births and duplicate registrations with variations of their names.

But UNRWA’s goals soon changed, both because Arab states generally refused to accept the Palestinian refugees that would accompany the development projects and because many refugees themselves balked at being resettled.

UNRWA then morphed from a temporary organization into a permanent “huge welfare agency, prolonging its beneficiaries’ dependence instead of giving them tools to become self-sufficient,” according a report by James G. Lindsay, a former legal advisor and general counsel for UNRWA, who lamented “the agency’s funding of food rations to large numbers of refugees who were perfectly capable of providing for their own sustenance.”

To expand its reach, UNRWA redefined who would be eligible for welfare. Its definition of “refugee,” always a politically determined moving target, changed from its early version: “a person whose normal residence had been Palestine for a minimum of two years preceding the 1948 conflict and who, as a result, had lost both his home and means of livelihood.”

UNRWA decided to treat homeless Palestinians who hadn’t fled Israel as refugees. Then less needy Palestinians who hadn’t fled Israel and hadn’t even lost their homes received refugee status — Palestinians who had always lived outside Israel could now receive refugee status, even if they lived continuously in the same home they, their fathers and grandfathers had inhabited.

Then UNRWA expanded the definition of refugee to include needy nomadic Bedouins and Arab villagers who lived in Palestine but had used fields that became part of Israel, and to include needy urban residents of Palestine who had held jobs in Israel. UNRWA also counted some needy non-Palestinians in neighbouring Lebanon. Then UNRWA dropped the requirement to be needy. Also the requirement to have continuously resided in the Palestinian territories after the 1948 war with Israel — a Palestinian who had moved to Canada, decided after a few years he preferred Gaza, and then moved back could now have his refugee status, and entitlements, reinstated. Finally, UNRWA changed the definition of refugee to include the grandchildren and great grandchildren of refugees. Not surprisingly, the number of official refugees soared, from an original official estimate of 726,000 (unofficial estimates are as low as 500,000) to more than 5 million official UNRWA refugees today.

This expansion of the refugee rolls — overwhelmingly paid for by Western taxpayers — paralleled the politicization of UNRWA, which over the decades grew to be 99% staffed by Palestinians, its self-perpetuating bureaucracy of 30,000 employees running schools and hospitals, providing security services in the West Bank and Gaza to counter Israel, and becoming a government within a government in the Palestinian Territories.

Because keeping refugee numbers high became a political goal to help rally international condemnation of Israel while securing more aid, neither the Palestinian leadership nor UNRWA looked favourably on those who would lower the refugee rolls. When Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in 2000 and Foreign Affairs Minister John Manley in 2001 naively offered to resettle Palestinians in Canada, Palestinians responded by burning Manley in effigy in the West Bank. “If Canada is serious about resettlement, you could expect military attacks in Ottawa or Montreal,” said the head of a Fatah militia. “We reject any kind of settlement of refugees in Arab countries, or in Canada,” said the PLO.

The Palestinian “refugee crisis” — considered the most intractable problem preventing a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — is one that neither UNRWA nor its Palestinian confederates can countenance ending. They have a good racket going that will last as long as the West keeps bankrolling it.

(IBD) Iraqi Christian and Yazidi representatives are urging the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights to call for a special HRC session on the plight of their communities at the hand of jihadists.

After the U.S. airstrikes and airdrops to relieve the Islamic State's siege of Mt. Sinjar in Iraq, where the Kurdish-speaking sect known as the Yazidis had fled, President Obama noted on Aug. 14: "The bottom line is that the situation on the mountain has greatly improved and Americans should be very proud of our efforts."

But shortly before the president spoke, according to ABC News, a spokesman for a U.N. relief agency said the situation on Mount Sinjar remained "dire" despite our efforts. Kieran Dwyer, communications chief for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, warned, "The situation on the mountain is not over."

The situation facing Iraqi Christians and the Yazidis, followers of a sect partly influenced by Christianity but borrowing from other religions as well, is certainly not over. Nor is the plight of non-Muslims throughout the Middle East.

Not long after the president spoke, Fox News reported that Islamic State forces slaughtered 80 Yazidis in a northern village.

"(Militants) arrived in vehicles, and they started their killing this afternoon," Fox News says senior Kurdish official Hoshiyar Zebari told Reuters. "We believe it is because of their (Islamic State's) creed: convert or be killed," he added.

Breen Tahseen, an Iraqi diplomat whose father, Prince Tahseen Saeed Bek, is the leader of the Yazidi minority, has made a plea to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, to hold a special session of the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) on the plight of the Yazidis and Iraqi Christians. He says Islamist militants have killed at least 3,000 Yazidi men and kidnapped some 5,000.

"On behalf of Prince Tahseen and the Yazidi people, we appeal to High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay to lead the call for the U.N. Human Rights Council to hold an emergency session in order to focus world attention on the desperate plight of the Yazidi people," read the Aug. 20 statement by Tahseen, as reported by the monitoring group U.N. Watch.

Iraqi Christian and Yazidi representatives gathered at the HRC headquarters in Geneva to hold a meeting on the plight of Iraq's besieged minorities.

In a letter to Pillay, a coalition of human rights groups and parliamentarians from countries such as Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and Estonia also pleaded for such a special session as the one held on Darfur in 2006.

"It is unconscionable for the world's highest human rights body — which is pledged, under UNGA Resolution 60/251 (the U.N. resolution that created the HRC) to prevent human rights violations and respond promptly to human rights emergencies — to continue turning a blind eye to the massacre, abuse and intimidation of Iraqi civilians," the group wrote in the letter.

Whether it be Coptic churches in Egypt, Christian schools in Nigeria or Yazidis in Iraq, non-Muslims are in the cross hairs of Islamists worldwide. The percentage of Christians in the Middle East has been cut in half, down from 10% in 1900 to just 5% as of 2010, according to the Pew Research Center.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, bucking the winds of political correctness and a rising Muslim population, noted during his annual Easter reception at 10 Downing Street that Christianity is now "the most persecuted religion around the world."

"We should stand up against persecution of Christians and other religious groups wherever and wherever we can, and should be unashamed in doing so."

Perhaps our U.N. ambassador, Samantha Power, can give Ms. Pillay a nudge.

Netanyahu: Israel won’t cooperate with UN probe, says UNHRC should look for war crimes in ‘Baghdad and Damascus’ not democratic Israel

(Times of Israel) The UN Human Rights Council (HRC), which this week appointed a commission to investigate Israel’s conduct during the month-long Operation Protective Edge, lends legitimacy to such terror groups as the Islamic State and Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday.

Netanyahu said the commission should look elsewhere, not Israel, for war crimes, and intimated that Israel would not cooperate with its members, although he did not explicitly rule out such cooperation.

Most ministers oppose any dealings with the UN team, and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said earlier Wednesday that Israel should not cooperate with the probe.

Israel’s State Comptroller Yosef Shapira announced he would launch an investigation into the military and political leadership’s handling of Operation Protective Edge. Analysts have noted that the holding of a credible Israeli investigation into war crimes allegations could have weight in any international legal battle.

In a filmed statement uploaded to his official Facebook page, the prime minister blasted the UN rights agency for failing to probe Hamas’s attacks against Israeli civilians and its use of the people of Gaza as “human shields,” as well as Syrian President Bashar Assad’s “massacre” of Syrian civilians and what Islamic State fighters are doing to Iraqi Kurds.

“Instead, the UN has decided to come and investigate Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, a democracy that acts in a legitimate way to protect its citizens from murderous terrorism,” Netanyahu said.

“This commission’s report has already been written, the one leading it [Canadian Prof. William Schabas] has already decided that Hamas is not a terrorist organization, and that’s why there is nothing for them to do here,” he said.

“First, let them visit Damascus, Baghdad, Tripoli. Let them see the Islamic State, the Syrian army, let them see Hamas — that’s where they’ll find war crimes, not here.”

Netanyahu was referring to statements Schabas, a professor of International Law at London’s Middlesex University, has made in the past, calling for Netanyahu and former president Shimon Peres to stand trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague for war crimes.

The prime minister was also referencing comments made by Schabas in an interview with Channel 2 on Tuesday evening, in which he refused to outright condemn Hamas as a terrorist organization or reveal how the commission plans to investigate it.

“It would be inappropriate for me to say” if Hamas is a terrorist organization, Schabas said, stressing that the investigation into the Gaza conflict must be opened “in as neutral a manner as possible.”

Schabas also said past comments he had made concerning the Israeli leadership’s implication in crimes against humanity had been “exaggerated.”

“I said my favorite [Western leader to try at the International Criminal Court] was Netanyahu. I was echoing the Goldstone Report,” Schabas explained, referring to the UN fact-finding mission on the 2008 Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip — which, Finance Minister Yair Lapid quickly pointed out, was compiled when former prime minister Ehud Olmert, and not Netanyahu, was serving as premier.

On Wednesday afternoon, Netanyahu met with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, thanking him for his solidarity with Israel and for rejecting the “false moral symmetry” between Israel and Hamas.

“Hamas continues to do these horrible things that ISIS does: They persecute Christians, they persecute gays, they persecute women, they basically reject modernity and there are a terrorist tyranny that is imposed on their people. And where their people reject being used as human shields, you know what they do, Governor? They execute them,” Netanyahu told Cuomo during the Jerusalem meeting.

“This is the kind of moral divide that is evident today in the world, and on one side you have Israel and the United States representing democracies committing to human rights, committing to a real future for our people; and on the other side, you have the likes of ISIS and Hamas, Islamist tyrannies that have no inhibition and pursue their grisly creeds and their grisly deeds.”
