(COLUMBUS) This morning at around 10 am at Watts Hall, (home to the chemical engineering department) at Ohio State University, somebody set off the fire alarm.

As people started to leave the building on mass, a car was driven into the crowd that was forming and then the driver of that vehicle got out and started attacking people with a knife which has left 8 people injured one of which is severely injured. The police called to the incident quickly managed to apprehend the suspect, who was fatally shot. A lock down which was issued by the University has now been lifted.

“The guy ended up just coming and hopping the curb with his car and trying to mow down a couple people. He lost control, and I think he ended up hitting three people, and then people were around the car. Somebody asked him if he was OK and the guy just hopped out of the car with a butcher knife and starting chasing people around.”
NBC News reports the attacker has been identified as 18-year-old Abdul Razak Ali Artan, citing multiple law enforcement sources. Ali Artan was believed to be an Ohio State student — a Somali refugee who lived near campus, NBC News reported. It said he was a legal permanent resident of the U.S.
