Mohammed stabs 4 people — UC Merced chancellor says it's definitely NOT terrorism

Faisal Mohammad
(LAT) A stabbing rampage at UC Merced did not appear to be motivated by politics or religion and is not being considered a terrorist act, university and law enforcement officials said Thursday.

Authorities named Faisal Mohammad, 18, of Santa Clara, as the assailant who was shot and killed by campus police after stabbing four people, including two fellow students. Mohammad was a freshman computer science and engineering student.

“We have no reason to believe that this was in any way related to terrorism,” UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland said at a news conference at the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. “It would be irresponsible to draw such conclusions based solely on the ethnicity of the suspect.”
