(Reuters) An Indian woman, who was working as a maid in Saudi Arabia, arrived back home in southern Chennai city on Saturday almost a month after her employer severed her arm.

The 58-year-old Kasthuri Munirathinam had told her family members that her employer chopped off her right arm after she complained about harassment and torture after three months of working in the household.

Munirathinam, who hails from Vellore district of southern state of Tamil Nadu, had gone to Saudi Arabia through an agent to earn a decent income and pay off her loans. She was promised a monthly wage of rupees 80,000 (USD 1,234) to take care of on old woman.

However, it was not long after Munirathinam had started working with the accused that she told her family about the alleged torture being meted out to her.

Munirathinam's daughter, Selvi, expressed relief at the return of her mother.

"Our entire family is very happy that even after suffering so much in that country my mother is finally back home. We had given up hope of bringing her back. We thank everyone for her return," said Selvi.
