Car Bomb Hits French Embassy in Libya

(FPM) France took the lead in pushing for the “liberation” of Libya. The United States was repaid for its aid with the Benghazi attack. Now France is learning the value of Libyan gratitude.
The bomb exploded before work started on Tuesday morning and there were no diplomats in the building. The security guard, who is French, was “gravely injured”, according to Libyan media, and the explosion caused major damage, with the outer wall of the embassy compound and part of the main building collapsed.

Another French security guard was said to have been wounded, but to have less severe injuries. The bomb set off a fire near the entrance to the embassy and two other nearby buildings also sustained damage.

Tuesday’s explosion damaged houses along the street occupied by the embassy in the upmarket Hay Andalus area of the city. The twisted wreckage of the car used in the attack was lying in the middle of the street.
The damage to an embassy that was likely reinforced to begin with indicates a very strong car bomb and that would suggest that we are probably dealing with Al Qaeda. The timing was screwed up but if the bomb had gone off while the embassy was fully staffed, the loss of life might have been quite severe.
French President Francois Hollande said, “France expects the Libyan authorities to shed the fullest light on this unacceptable act, so that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.”
Good luck with that. The Libyan authorities refused to touch the perpetrators of Benghazi. But perhaps these days a military threat from France carries more weight than one from Barry O.
